Cowl seal at back end of the hood on 1966

Could someone please tell me which way the rubber strip on the cowl at the back of the hood goes? one edge is flat and the other edge has a sort of "C" notch in it.

After looking at photos I took when I started tearing my 66 down it looks like the flat edge goes to toward the windshield.

Thank you. One more question please. Does it but up to the cowl or is there a gap between the seal and the cowl?

the center goes where the pin holes are for the twist nails that hod it in place
