How NOT to restomod your slick... Not for the squeamish.

Post by FarmMotorSports »

Start with a minimal rust midwestern slick. Lets say a 3/4 ton...

The first thing you shouldn't do is throw away the stock wheels, matching hubcaps and all. Then you should have a foggy clue what wheels will fit a slick and look at least passible.

Now while I don't mind the look of a lowered slick. A stock 3/4 ton suspension dosen't go down very far whithout proper mods to the frame. Simply cuttin the stock front springs in half, and removing all but two rear leaves.... Probably not the best way to do things... Then you discover the old U bolts will not tighten up with only two leaves, enter some spacer blocks....

Now, with your hillbilly lowering complete try to install your worst possible choice in wheels. Two hours later, your trusty jug saw and a new wood blade cured the fitment problems...

Now for the minor issues....
Pop the hood and find what motor is in this truck. A trusty shop vac, 4hours, and 8 inches of pack rat nest later you find your FE. And as an added bonus you know why there was an air cleaner carb and two valve covers in the seat. Fortunately every part is there so just bolt em back on.... Find a bent pushrod during the reassembly. No problem two landscape pavers bash that bad boy straight enough.

Top off that radiator with the garden hose, and fill the master cylinder. Pour in a gallon of weedeater gas, damm, tank doesn't hold gas. No problem throw that out, bend the steel line over near the filler hole. And drop that empty weedeater gas can in the bed and string some hose.

Rub the whole truck down with some ussd motor oil, drop a for sale sign under the bare wiper blade.

All that should be worth $6850 minimum.

Pictures soon for your viewing pleasu.... Aaauh. Horror.... Laughs.

PS. I had NOTHING to do with this CRIME against a slick.

Someone stole the for sale sign within 24 hours..
The guy that manages the strip mall, says it needs to leave, he is already tired of the hate it is attracting.
It actually has $1800 worth of potential... In my estimation of a midwest truck.

Dang, I suppose that bed can still be saved without too much work. Fab up some appropriate looking fenders with a set of dual wheels. Better a dual wheel F-250 than what ever he was thinking.

Yup, it's a damn shame when MUPPETS get ahold of a truck and in their quest to "Turn a profit", do more harm than good......

That's about as polite as I can manage, the inside voice would have typed something that would have the moderators deleting it immediately.

Also a shame that the truck didn't fall into the right hands, as it is never going to sell for anything close to their asking price, and if anyone manages to get them down to a more realistic price, they still have to "UNDO" all the atrocities that have been committed.

All in all, just a DAMN SHAME.....

Ive noticed a trend as I have grown older.

Personal income and common sense have an inverse relationship most of the time.

He hopes to create a rat truck rocket ship, not realizing that a tesla has an aluminum body , low center of gravity and short wheelbase.
So all the programing that controls the tesla is going to misbehave with the weigh, wheel base and high center of gravity of the slick. Best of luck to him...

It is an achievable project. And there are many working examples out on the web.... And some still in the works.
https://mobile.twitter.com/TesFalia
So I should hold all judgements until a conclusion of the project has occured.
For me I hate wiring, a tesla would have plenty to be adapted...

The younger generation that grew up with electronics can do some interesting things. More than I care to figure out for sure.

About my 15th year into my automotive carrier I noticed I was the old guy picking my jobs, like the old carburetor technicians did me when I started. I would pass off anti-theft and cabin technology when ever I could to the younger guys. Some of the greenest hands had software skills I didn't think many folks cared about. One young technician liked shoeing 4.1 Caddy engines into different older cars like they belonged there. I picked up a few things from him.
