Dude... you all have known me since 2012. I've spent 13 years in the CG before that and I'm at 24 years of service in just a few weeks.

I've been assigned to 13 locations, 6 of those ships with 12 years of sea time. 1 year in the arctic isolated duty and 1.5 years in the middle east during OIF/OND, the remaining various training units or navigation duty.

So.... my ship has been in a yard period for upgrade since April. I was supposed to take a different ship to sea in July, but their Cat generator caught fire and we had to replace it. All I did get was 5 days out at sea to train some folks and we are back waiting on my ship to be finished. I was due to head to the Yard and start getting her ready to sail home in just 2 weeks.

Rumors. A lot of time they are juice but this was sour. Confirmed,.. ship delayed for additional upgrades and I won't get her back for 4 more months.

AND the shit of this is we are moving it to Guam in October 2023.
I have to stay aboard till ~May 2024.
It was just enough I decided to draft my retirement letter for Oct2024. I will go with the ship, but I am leaving my dogs, house behind and mom/dad will take shifts watching them till I can get out. I will start terminal leave in about May 2024 and be paid my full pay for vacation days (since i never get tonuse it anyway now)saved all the way till 30Sep2024. First day of retirement is 01oct2024.

Not how I planned to finish this career but by then 25.75 years is enough.
Still pissed. I no longer fear this retirement.

This sounds like the military. Sucks you have to go out there for a relatively short time. Congrats, you’re almost out!

Yeah I'd be on land next August hopefully. No idea work ups yet.
