Front disc brake conversion

Hello,

I have a 1963 F100 with factory 4 wheel drive that is currently being restored. Does anyone know if a front dis brake conversion is possible with the Warn locking hubs on the front axle? I would like to put disc on the front to make stopping better, but before ordering the kit I wanted to see if anyone has made an attempt to do this with a 4x4, or if it would be better off leaving drums on the front.

Well, let me ask a few questions first....
Is this a closed knuckle Dana 44?
How original do you want to keep this truck?

Are you good at fabrication, and working out clearance and parts choices?

This should give you an idea what it takes to get Chevy disk brakes on your Ford D44.

Then there's swapping in a later D44 that has open knuckles and disk brakes, and gives a tighter turning radius because of the open knuckle...

Thank you for the insight on this topic. Looks like it will just stay with drums on the front, I don't want to mess up any part of the axle.

If you haven't thought about a brake booster,or at least dual chamber master cylinder, maybe you should.... A dual chamber master cylinder and can add a safety factor to your system. While the booster can make stopping easier. Personally I have never had a problem getting drum brakes to stop or at least lock up. But, they can require more attentive adjustments unlike disks...

An original single bowl master cylinder can be rendered useless by the failure of one line or wheel cylinder, NO brakes what so ever...
