Power rear window??

Post by my66longbed »

So I picked up a 66 f100 as a parts truck. When I looked at the truck the first time I wasn't interested much in the cab so when I got the truck home I discovered that it has a power rear window. Was this a option offered back then?

At first I thought that someone had installed this after words as a custom deal, but the switch on the dash is the same style as all the others and has "Rear Window" around the ring.

I have never seen one of these before, or am I just behind the times and this is no big deal? I can get some pics if anyone is interested...

Yeah, pics! Does it go down like a side window or is it like the horizontal sliders in trucks?

Cool! I've always wanted to do that to a truck. Take pics of the inside too! I bet they used a station wagon mechanism, don't ya think?

That sounds super cool.
I don't think it was a factory thing, but the guy must have done a good job to make you question it.

Mercury had that one style of car..Monterey? that had that power rear window on a car around then. maybe that's where the bezel came out of. I'd like to see pictures especially how the window seal works.. sounds intiriguing :D
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

that sounds realy cool.

I was in my buddies 05 sports track and we put the cooler in the bed and just put the window down to get the drinks and snaks out of the back. Realy nice, I like it better than a slider.

What's the story on this? Do we have pictures up or more info available?

I have thought about trying to fashion one of these using a Bronco tailgate as a donor. Anyone else attempt anything similar?

I would say it has been at laest 20 years ago but when I was showing my 56 @ the Charlotte Motor Speedway another 56 pulled next to us & he had a power sliding window that went up & down into the body of the truck,, he used the same system as the rear tailgates of a Jeep Cherokee or Wagoneer & modified the regulator arms,,, Oh by the way it was not a option for power rear sliding windows on 61-66 Trucks

JC Whitney used to sell kits for this setup, was pretty pricey. I always thought it was a pretty cool deal, don't know if they still have them. It was in their catalog back in the 80s last I can remember.

This was actually a common swap back in the day using wagon hardware or stuff from a big Merc or Lincoln that had a breezaway rear window. The real question is how to make it work on a big window Uni? LOL Hawkrod
