following are pics of the heaters and heater cores used in the 61-64
65/66 and 67-72 trucks
this is the 61-64 heater
both standard and magic-aire use the same core
this is the 61-64 core
note the flange that mounts the core to the heater
this is the 65/66 heater
again both standard and magic-aire use the same core
65/66 core
the 61/64 and 65/66 cores are the same dimension but the bottom side is different and the 65/66 has no flange
this is a larger version of the 65/66 core

regardless of the box info it does not fit the 65/66.it may fit in some of the 71-72 heaters which i think is what i bought it for
this is a 67-72 type heater. it uses the same core as 65/66

It raises a couple of questions as part availability for the early system is scarce. Since the dimensions (and plumbing apparently) of the 61-64 core are the same as the 65/66 with the only difference being the flange mount for the early core all you'd have to do to adapt the later core which is still available is make a saddle/mount to secure the newer core into the older box?
& Number two, is the later heater box similar enough to the early one to be easily installed in an early truck? Or do other under dash differences make it difficult?

I don't know if things have changed, but the last time I checked the 64 core was way more expensive than the others?

I've never found the 61-64 core listed anywhere. RockAuto has the 65/66 for $31 so I think it'd be worth fabing up a mount to make it work in the early box.
But then the blower motor is NLA for the early box too so if a 65/66 box can be used instead it would open up parts availability.

Okay, I just ordered the 65/66 heater core, I'll post here how well it fits and what I end up doing to secure it when I get it.

Looking at the pictures a little more closely I can see the routing for the rearward pipe is different between the two styles making the newer style exit horizontally and the old style vertically. The forward pipe should be fine, but I'll have to either reroute the rear one or cut the pipe off off the old unit and solder it on to the new one.
