At the start of my search for a truck restoration project, the first thing I sought was a truck that was as old as I was. So off I was, looking for a nice 1967 Ford pickup truck. When I saw how they looked... well let's just say I've been happy here ever since.
Apparently all the Ford engineers back then never took in all the mushroom eatin' and pot smokin' of the late 60's cause their designs just seemed a bit plain to me compared with our group of trucks.
Don't get me wrong, there are some great-looking late 60's trucks out there, it's just that I chose a Slick because of it's looks that's all.

When I first went looking for a project truck, I was looking for
1) a Mercury
2) a Shortbox
3) a bumpside
What I found out was:
they only made bumpside Mercs for a year and a half
Short-wides of ANY truck are rare here in Farm country. Farmers wanted to be able to haul as many bales/pigs/fenceposts etc. as possible, shorties didn't make sense to them.
So, I found my '64. Have seen a few bumpside Mercs for sale since, but never, ever a shortbox. I like the Bumpsides. Think they are cool and crisp, comfortable no BS trucks that seem to last forever. There are unrestored ones all over the area here, STILL being used as work trucks.
But I have grown to like Slicks just a little bit better...

Haha that's funny Max, my story is just the opposite. I always thought the Slicks were a little frumpy until I fell in love the a SWB unibody. That appreciation grew into respect for the '64-'66s. But I've always loved the bump sides. I'm a 4x4 guy and that has a lot to do with it though. I think the Slicks make better hot rods and the bumpsides better 4x4s. And that is exactly what I'm building. One of each.

But my absolute favorite, all time truck, hands down is the 40-41 Ford. Don't get JC started on this either!

My 1st truck was a 70', since then I've had a 69' Ranger and a 70' C/S, now 62',65',78',05'. I love them all!

Yeah, ain't that the truth Charlie! The '59-60's get a bad rap for being the ugly ducklings of the Ford truck lineage, but I've seen some really cool '59-60s I like a lot!

Thanks, Isn't that the truth about the pre-slicks, myself included, they"ve been growing on me somehow. My ugly ducking is my 05', but it sure drives nice.
