Cab Corners - Question

Post by Max »

On the replacement cab corners (1964) from LMC, Carpenter, Carolina Classics, etc... (I figure they're about the same), whoever has bought these - can you tell me how far they wrap around the corner towards the front of the cab?

Nobody gives dimensions on that little wrap-around area. They only give the height and rear width. LMC said they'd get back to me in a couple of days so I thought I'd ask here.

The damage on mine is right in the corner, but by the time I get done grinding out the putty and feathering the hole, it might get a little large.

Thanks for any help!

Max from what I remember, they go the door opening in the front and around the back to rhe hump in the middle. I hope yours are better than mine, the body line in the back of the cab didn't line up for nothing and stamped crooked, I had to cross section the new corners to get it to look right. It's in front of the bed but I thought they'd be a little closer. Good luck!

Just got a call from LMC. Thought it would take longer or else I wouldn't have asked here, but if anyone cares...

Replacement cab corners for 61-66 measures 9-3/4" Tall x 4" from door to middle of curve x 15" from middle of curve towards rear middle of cab, if I've made any sense.

Charlie, I'm needing more of the curve than anything so if the rear cab indent doesn't line up, not too worried. Where did you get yours from and did you do both sides?

On the cab corners, does anyone make or sell the inside portion that is under the truck? Seems that the insides rust before the outsides.

What ever you do dont install them like regular cab corners. the stamping is actually crooked and fitment is a bear.

If the B pillar door opening is not damaged cut back about a half inch from the door opening on the flat and then fit the corner in place. This allows you the cheat the corner into fitting resonably well.

All the corners are made by a company in Ohio and the dies wore out at least thirty years ago....

FZ

the inside piece is not made but can easily be replaced with a flat sheet with a 90 degree bend. remove all the metal when the cab corner is off and slip it in place from the inside with the flange meeting the rear follr stamping. doesent look stock but seals up the area for another 40 years. I used this method with 16 guage galv on the super crew when i replaced all the corners.

JC- got them from CC, like Garbz said I think they come from the same place. I had to do the insides too, used flat sheet 16 ga. Max- I had to do both sides, pass. was the worse, had to use the whole thing, drivers side- I replaced just to the indent. the curved portion fit great though so you'll be in good shape, the indents were the bear. Good luck Max.

Charlie, yes after I saw Garbz' post I realized that I had had this conversation before. Luckily, I didn't have to do cab corners on mine.

But my buddy did his on his '67 with DC corners and they didn't fit too good either.
He showed me the diff between DC cab mounts ,and others, though, for the twin I trucks. BIG difference there. The others are JUNK.

I made my own cab mounts, floorpans, mid-cab brace ends. I made my mounts out of 11ga. steel, They will outlive me.

Thanks Greg, if you lived in Md or De, be no prob. Us MAC'sters help each other out all the time. Didn't think about a stepside, just takes a little extra time for something you shouldn't have to do.

Just wanted to update any of you needing these, FYI:

Ordered cab corners from Blue Oval only because I was ordering other things from them. Got both sides, 22 ga. steel, made in Taiwan - they fit like a glove on both sides, but just too thin for my taste. I'm returning them.

Carolina Classics has 18 ga. made in Ohio. They are a bit smaller in what you get compared with the Taiwan versions - a few inches shorter in height and an inch or two less on the backside, but I'll take that anyday over trying to weld a Juicyfruit gumwrapper to my truck.

the cab corners do not fit the big trucks- f500,600 etc. correctly as the back of those cabs do not have as long of an indent as the 100/250 cabs.means you have to cut the corner patch below the indent to match up.
