Figured I would move on to a build thread... it wont be a fast build quite yet due to Im waiting to buy a house, so as of now she is sitting at my work.

I bought this about 1 month ago for $500.00... 65 3/4 ton LB, 352, 4 speed that is in excellent running condition. It has some usual rust in the floor pans and front fenders but overall not a bad fix.

My plans as of right now are to swap everything over to 1/2 ton suspension, Stock 15" steelies, DJM front beams and a shackle flip with c-notch in the rear. The interior will stay basically stock with the exception of bucket seats. I also plan to add discs in the front along with power steering, and im also looking into a c6 swap now...

question... I had an exhaust leak on the passenger side at the rear of the manifold. I decided to pull both manifolds to do both sides, you dont know how happy I was that none of them broke off.

My question... there is a (what appears to be) heat shield along with the manifold gasket between the manifold and block. What is the purpose of this? Is this something I can discard or do I need to reinstall this?

That heat shield protects the spark plug boots. It should not have been in between the manifold and head though, should be between the bolt heads and the manifold - that would explain the leak too.

No real progress yet, had to have 2 teeth surgically removed and work has been busy. Im putting the manifolds back on tomorrow after work then going to drive it on Sunday to torch off the rear bumper. Im going to take my son to the wrecking yard this weekend so......

I need to know what years to look for the front end out of to convert to 5 lug. I only need spindles out due to the drop beams but I figure now is the time to go disc brake while im at it

Cool truck and looking forward to updates. Yes, for the power steering pretty much most F100's-F350 4x2's use same gear box from 68 to 79
very simple swap. My opinion I think AIM makes a much better dropped beam than DJM.
