Long to short bed frame measurments????

I have forgotten the specifics of cutting a long bed frame down to fit a short bed. I did the bedsides a while ago, but can't remember how much to take out of the frame, I know how and where (straight section behind first bed mount). So, how much is it, 2 feet on the money?

I have 62 SWB uni that I'm going cut up in a few, I can take measurements you need then if you don't have them then. or... I'll send it to you if you pay the freight.

can't remember how much we cut when we shortened lances truck but I will ask him and post it here later this evening

talked to Lance and he said he did not think we cut a full 2ft from the frame. he thought we cut like 18in from the frame just behind the cab.

I did a similar mod but just shortened a bed to match my frame.

The bed mounting bolts are a great reference to measure from. A good question to ask a member is what the spacing is on the short bed mounting bolts.. When you shorten your bed and frame, most likely all the mounting holes will not be cut out (with the exception of the rear frame holes but they should'nt matter)..

Personally I'd shorten the frame first . If you are a bit off with your chassis you can just match the bed to it.. Also you can just do light tach welds on your bed and set it on for a visual inspection prior to final welding and bodywork.

18 inches does sound about right, then the remainder comes out of the end of the frame rails behind the shackles. I shortened the bed a while ago but forgot to write down the frame measurments I had found. Trying to pick up a new TIG welder before I do the frame, arc and mig just aren't as nice.

When we did the frame on the 61 in my signature we used a long wheel base non uni frame. We cut 11 3/4 inches out right behind the cab and 8 1/2 inches off of the rear end of the frame. I'm pretty sure we had to re-locate the rear cross member.
