would this tire size look weird on my '64?

Post by truckster »

I found a killer deal on some 215/70/15's with a 2" whitewall and was wondering if going from 235/75/15's would look awkward...

if I could upload some pics of my truck as it sits now maybe you guys could give me better answers...

thanks

If I am reading the above chart correctly those tires would be close to OEM tire size. Hope this helps

Should be fairly close. I had a set of wheels with 215/70R15 tires and I compared the height to the bias ply tires that I have on the front (which may or may not be stock size) and the 215/70R15 was just slightly shorter.

The tire looked a bit short to my eye, but my truck is quite high in the front.

That's the size I have on "Big Red", in blackwall.

I actually think they look a little small. (The PO had 235's on the front and 30's on the back. ) but I was trying to balance looks and wheel well fit with drive-ability of a straight axle.

I don't think it looks too awful. Like the others said, that's probably pretty close to the original size anyway. AND...it doesn't matter if we like it or think it looks goofy. It's youor truck, do what you like. :)

i'd think they would look pretty good since your truck is lowered anyways and the fender gap wouldn't really be there like if it were at stock height.

regardless of look the smaller tire turns more times for every mile and will therefore wear sooner.

I have 215-70 on 7" wide vintiques gennies on the front and with the DJM drop they look just right, 8" gennies in the back with 60's. I went with Radial TA with the white letters in as the coker wide whites where just too much coin.

related (sort of) question:

Our bolt circle would be 5", 5-1/2 correct?

Rear spacing... the higher the number, the more the tire "tucks in" right? In other words a rear space of 4" would stick out 1 inch more than a rear space of 5". Is that right?

My front stance is MUCH wider than the back. Especially after doing the disc swap. If I ever get the money I want to go with a thinner tire AND tuck the fronts in more.

Right now I'm running 255/70-15 frt & bck. reverse smoothies. Wide. Really stick out in front. I would like to someday go with a Gennie, maybe go down to 235/70-15 in back and 215/75-15 in front.

With that combo, should I still tuck the fronts in a little more?
