And it doesn't even come with the 429.

There is a Slick in one of the pics though. It's got to be worth a cool million at least.

It could be worth 10 times that restored - could be.
The one JC posted doesn't have the Drag Pack - VERY rare option on a 71. That's what it comes down to, how many just like that were made. It literally breaks down to every option, color, the black/red interior, Drag Pack, 429 CJ, Ram Air - everything. If he is going to try to get that kind of scratch he should get the Marti report and list it too though - it should go with the car also.
This is why I got out of these kinds of cars - rich mans world.
You about wouldn't dare drive it after it's done either.
Probably was a $1500 car in 78 if it were nice then - sad huh?
The really bad part is you can't enjoy the car. It can only be afforded by the "I have a......" crowd. Guys like me who truly love them for what they are and NOT what they are worth are out of the game. About the only "real" person in that world is Jay Leno - he drives his stuff and truly loves the cars. You can just see it in him when they interview him or do some other car show with him. I'd bet if you saw him at a car show you could walk right up to the guy and talk cars with him just like any of us too.

Its like Greg said, they was cheap back in the day. I paid 2000 for a 71 429 car in 82. I was going to post some pictures, but it looks like Photo Bucket has gone crazy. It is totally different that it used to be. Don't understand what is going on with it.

If you want to learn a little more about the 71+ 429 cars this is a pretty great site.

My opinion is if I can't afford to total it, I can't afford to buy it. Not that I plan to total it, it's just that __it happens. There's no point in buying a car I'm afraid to drive. If I ever buy a 6 figure muscle car, you better believe it will get at least as much use as any of my other vehicles. Of course the good thing about obscenely expensive muscle cars is that much of the damage from day to day use will be comparatively cheap to repair.
It is unlikely that I will ever own a car which is so expensive. It's not the cost so much as the fact that a car can be built to outperform the high dollar stuff at a fraction of the price - I don't like to waste money. My goal with the truck is to make it good competition for far newer Corvettes, Ferraris, and the like and it won't have nearly the same price tag.

The 71 Cougar 429's are the rare ones, I have seen one, it belonged to a guy in a car club I was once in. Here is the 71 Mustang I bought in 81 and the engine when we were rebuilding it in the late 80's.

Looks to me as though you were doing a little more than a rebuild on that Michelle.

One of the 71-73 Stang Verts with a roller cam 5.0 and an AOD makes a REALLY nice cruiser.

I am with my late-night buddy here. however. the 71/72 Cougars before they got the enormous bumpers were TRES cool. And I agree with Greg on the fat mustang convertibles (only). They were cool too.
