anyone interested in a HEADLINER template

Post by Nick64Slick »

I posted earlier about making a headliner and also in parts wanted and a thought occured to me......

since these are so expensive to buy / ship why not make a template that everyone can use? I would need dimensions from people... perhaps marked up on one of the pictures from a catalog, etc. and I can make a CAD dwg. based on that so we can post it for everyone's use. It could then be printed and used as a template.

just brainstorming, let me know what you think....

I have a template for a 65 66 headliner drawn on red paper I got from another member. If you can use it I will send it to you.
PM me.

I spray painted around my old one while it was laying on a sheet of 3/8 plywood. Just got to cut it out when I'm ready to make mine.
I got lucky when I removed it and the sections didn't tear.

Would be cool to make some templates out of some poster board and ship them in tubes.
Is that what you had in mind?

yeah, that's exactly what I had in mind ABA. It would be best if I could do my CAD dwg. off of an original / take the measurments first hand then it would be more accurate. I could then post it / print out full size templates on paper, roll and ship. PM sent Brian

Me too! I don't even have an old one to use as a pattern.
I would buy one for a 61, i guess there is a difference?

well we're making progress, I have a template on the way. I think I will draw it up when it arrives and post the CAD dwg for everyone to take a look at and confirm measurments, etc. I know 61-63 will be different from 64-66 so we'll have to figure that out. I'm developing a method for making actual headliners so that they will roll up and ship in tubes, I may even be able to offer colors if people are interested.

Would be interested in one for a 62. Mine was missing when I got my truck, so I need to make one from scratch anyway. Any help would be great.

Count me in as well for a 62 Uni, mine is still in the truck but it's all warped out of shape, in fact you hit your head when you get in. I still don't have my truck back from the mechanic yet so I can't get any measurements.

Are the Uni trucks the same? Are they also the same as the 65/66?

The biggest problem is location. I have a 61 small window liner plus b-pillar covers, but shipping it is not feasable. If you do have one, carefully remove it, lay it on a stable surface, on top of a piece of 1/8 inch luan plywood, out of the sun, and spray it down with a misting bottle a little at a time until it lays flat.Trace it and cut it.
Anyone in the area need to borrow one, I can jump ahead and try doing mine now, I will need to make at least four, maybe five at some point.

Awesome tip, I'd never have thought about misting it until it lays flat. Once I get the truck I'll give it a shot.
