weird distributor cap problem

Post by Spanky »

I have never seen this before: just started some routine maint. on the ol slick and popped the distributor cap off and I'll be damn if the post are all brand new looking but right beside each one of them on the plastic it's burned a hole all the way around on the inside just next to each post. :hm: The truck was running just fine I had no reason to believe anything at all was wrong! Anybody heard of this before?

Looks like it`s been arcing off the rotor early or late!, would that be pre ignition? :?

Thanks for the tips! I found the problem, it was the spark plug gaps. They were all set at .040 so i reset them all to .030. I obviously forgot to gap them when I bought the plugs. haha And the truck wasnt even running that bad! I thought it was just a tad rough but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. And I cant believe it was running so close to normal firing only on the plastic! The plugs looked fine so hopefully when I fire it up in the near future I'll notice a huge difference. :thumright:
