I'll take it another direction! Crank it up to get the full effect. Leslie West abused a guitar better than almost anyone.

Man, there are ALOT of them- but the minute I first heard the opening notes on this song, I liked it right away- never grows old no matter how many times I listen. Fun to play on the guitar, and not a bad movie either. I just don't listen to it when I drive...

I'm stuck in the 50's and 60's, but if I had to pick an all time favorite it would be a tie between
LaVern Baker in 1955
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gDCp7OcSMQ
and Tina Turner 1969
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipOz_k9zvzo
I just can't hep it.

I have had a theme song my whole life.
Originally written by some dude from St Louis, my favourite version is by a little known English band...
Status Quo and Bye Bye Johnny http://youtu.be/8FUY0evDf3M
and the band who didn't even know me, when they wrote the description of my life http://youtu.be/yRv34Cat3Vw

And I've seen that movie at least a brazillion times...

Dude is driving a '57 Fairlane when he goes south. I know its minor, but it still bugs me.

Where do you start let alone stop, Chuck berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, Roy Orbison, Fats Domino, Rick Nelson just to name a few, and of course ANYTHING done by Buddy Holly. I will say that the likes of Elvis or the Pat Boone types are not on my list. If one song has to say it all give me " Hot Rod Lincloln ". Tom
"Make him a "deal" deal, maybe the guy's a republican!"
I loved this song when I was 11 years old in '62, played it to the love of my life 10 years later in '72 and still think it is great now, after 37 years of marriage.

Casey!
I just didn't picture you a bif fan of some of those groups. Ton Loc and Prince?
As a side note, song #50. I went to high school with a kid that loved that song and sang it all the time when it came out. Asked him why one night and got it explained to me. At one point in the song the "break for the Sodbuster at mile marker 54". The Sodbuster is his dad and his dad went to school with CW McCall and got the mention in the recording. Asked his dad about it a few days later and his dad pulled out a whole box of autographed "Convoy" records and gave me one. He was pretty proud.
Great mix of songs guys. Who is leading the sing-along at Slick Stock of each of these?

50's and 60's music is my favorite since I grew up in this era.
This is one of my favorites from 1960 when I worked in New Mexico and driving the hilly highways from Santa Fe.
I had a 60 Bonneville convertible and just loved flying down the highways listening to this song--

Damn guys.
We're really digging deep.
I always liked Ferlin Huskey.
But REAL Rock and Roll is where my soul really is, and that died in the 70's with the advent of disco. I pity the fools that listen to the crap on the radio now.

a lot of people (including my older sisters) thought they were from England
In the early and mid 80's I really got interested in the TexMex rock and roll that was coming out of Texas-- Doug Sahm & Texas Tornadoes, Fab T-Birds, the Wagoneers, Joe "King" Carrasco and my favorites the Leroi Bros.
Did any of you Texans get to see any of those bands back then? I used to catch them on Austin City Limits.
Leroi Bros. :

and yeah, Skip, agree with you about "Thunder Road"...when the years and models of cars don't match the year a movie is supposed to be set in it drives me nuts...
