Almost everything I have to do to this escort is a battle.
I just spent an hour & half changing the blower motor switch - still only has the 2 low speeds.
Radiator cooling fan isn't working - swapped it with one from the yard (cutting myself twice - still doesn't work. Went to change the switch for it - the damn thing is mounted in an aluminum T but has rubber hose on both sides with no flats - are you supposed to "wish" it out of the threads! F ing idiots!
And yes every problem I have with it is an electrical problem.
It's really well insured

prepare to cuss out loud cuz it aint easy to change. its in a rubber boot thing. sob to get out. i would take it aprt now and look at it. mine did this a few months ago and when i got the relay out it was obviously trash.
before you do that, does your fan come on with the ac ?
No, its not a windsor or a cleveland, its a three fifty TWO!
yea its prolly the relay, it aint the switch on the pipe. ac overrides that.
be prepared for that to not be the right relay. the the parts houses here all show a listing but its not the right relay.. or its the relay at the cowl, yea i think there is two relays..... sorry to be confusing but i am trying to remeber all the things i checked before i found my problem.

The relay in the main power panel by the strut tower looks new actually.
So there are 2 fan relays?
Where is it at the cowl (you mean firewall right?).
Still need to find the issue with the blower motor too - the A/C would work pretty well if it would move enough air.

I'm starting the think toggle switch.
Also need to figure out why I have only the 2 low speeds on the blower motor - the hour & a half changing the switch was a complete waste of time.
It also needs inner tie rod ends (rack ends) or a wheel bearing - something is loose up front and the rest is new.
I drove the Jeep most of the day today - was worried the scort would get too hot (it's still 90* at almost 9PM here). Jeep will be on route tomorrow too - don't need the car breaking something that requires a tow 200 miles from home.

Sadly, Ford perfected the "throw away car" with the Tempo. The Escort obviously is in the same vein. The part cost more than the freakin car is worth. whataaya gonna do. Pull your pants down at the next GM that drives by, this was all their idea
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

Check the resistor block on or near the fan motor, they like to burn up....
So good lookin' that I've attracted an international stalker.

how many miles do you put on a car before you throw it away?
a)100k
b)200k
c)300k
d)500k

My son had what he called a pisscort, and hated it. I do remmember the Chevette, and those were a POS. Chevette's were on the road for generally about a year or so after being sold off the dealer lots.I had one experience with one and never want to work on one again. Thankfully, the thing was not mine, but belonged to arelative and I had the misfortune of having to work on it. Never again.
i have had good results out of mine, all three so far. when my current one is worn out or whatever i will get another. 42 miles to the gallon in a car i can pick up for under a grand is just what i want in a commuter car my current one is a 94 hatch 5 speed with 240k and counting my old one was a 98 4door and my freind still drives it and its got 299k last time i looked. we both put between 80 and 100 miles on them daily.
i dont think you can ask much more from a car than that.

To be honest the car is really pretty reliable. 90% of the work I have done to it is just maintenance that wasn't kept up with. You combine things like 150K on the factory rear struts and me driving it 6200-6300 a month and I'm going to have to work on it some.
It's just kind of a PITA to work on (better than my friend TJ's 2 Focus' though).
It's not the most comfortable thing I have owned either and I'm in it 63 hours a week. It certainly could use a better seat!
I saw a Pinto wagon the other day that was clean as a whistle - that with an OD tranny would do real good on gas plus have a little more room (would probably need a better seat too, lol). I have considered 90-93 Mustang 4 cylinder hatchback too - those get in the mid 30s pretty easily, has about the same cargo space, and would be more comfortable.

Yea the seats are lackluster at best the only other cars I have owned and really put miles on are bmws and they win in the seat department hands down..but not on mpg. I looked at getting seats out of a gt escort but hey look to be the same seat just with some accent color piping. I read some where that probe seats and mx3 seats will bolt in. The body of the escort is a mazda after all.
