hey this is ty getting my truck all together and finding i have 12v running to my coil all the time from what i have been told if i have that i will burn up my points. how can i drop my voltage, with what and how. thanks in advance for any help

reistors or resistor wire drop voltage
why put off till tommorow what you can put off alltogether

Did you check it with the points closed?
Open points don't draw any current
no current = no voltage drop
The pink wire is a resister wire

As stated, pink wire coming from ignition switch is resister wire. You should have about 8 volts going to the coil, unless someone has replaced it with a coil with internal resistance or the resister wire has broken down.

what length of resistive wire would i use in order to get to 8 or9v at my coil. i ask because i had to rewire some of my truck and didnt think about there being any special wire

mount it someplace cool firewall or fender
adjust for around 9 volts with the points closed
