Showed this to my wife last night. Her comment was he must have put the car together with zip ties.

The 4x4 stuff was great also.

Man I saw that the first couple of times and I thought it was rush hour in Nashville at the 24/40 split!! I have seen them drive like that then. What finally made me realize it wasn't Rush hour traffic was that there wasn't 12 lanes of traffic trying to use only 5 lanes of traffic.

it was the Mayor of Selmer TN
who masterminded a catastrophy. God Bless the people who got caught up in the insanity & destruction.

Bad as it all was, Anal Aperatures in Media, who know nothing about anything, insist on calling
a totally Imbicilic move, instituted allegedly by a politician, "A Drag Race". . . . .

Maybe it could be called a street race if another vehicle was involved but none was.
So why doesn't the press quit getting it wrong and call it what it really was and is?
A stupid Idea that caused Tragedy, Death and Destruction to innocent folks.

Why blame something so Idiotic, Egregiously Stupid & Dangerous on Drag Racers?

We don't cause things like that. We know better & we prevent them. !

The only drag races that should be done on ordinary streets and no barriers for the spectators is two transvestites in drag and running a marathon. Thats too much power that can get away from someone,reguardless of how good the driver is.

I heard a blurb on the radio the other day, I think it was police chief talking. He said this was actually an annual thing, but this is the first time there had been an accident.

I bet a little common sense could have been used at some point.

I've been following the Selmer, TN accident closely since I drag raced at Beech Bend in Bowling Green, KY one year and was the track announcer the following year.

Yes, it bothered me to hear the news media calling it a drag race. It bothered me when the news media said the driver was "burning off" his tires. It bothered me when TV news anchors would ask an "on the scene" reporter about the lack of guard rails. It bothered me when the news media dug up seven and eight year old DUI and wreckless driving charges againast the involved driver.

It was the annual "Cars for Kids" charity car show and in past years race cars were allowed to do small controlled exhibition burnouts on a city street. That explains the lack of guard rails. One injured boy said (from his hospital bed) that the crowd kept crowding into the street even after police had told them to get back. The driver involved in the accident didn't get out of it when he was supposed to. There was a man in the street marking the "shut off" point and the driver stayed in it for about 200 more feet.

What we don't know is if the car had a mechanical failure or not. Maybe he couldn't get out of it when he was suppose to.

I am unable to accept a pro comp car was brought in to do "burnouts." for spectators on a public street.
Well maybe I can accept it because it happened, but I sure can't see the logic in that exercise at all.
Drag cars are built to launch & get gone. Burnouts take place in a burnout box where there is no traction.
Even after they come out if the burnout box with wheels smoking they can hook up, LURCHING forward.
Sometimes they even pick up & carry their front wheels for a distance. No car can stay still with the front
wheels "flying high" in the air, out of control & rear wheels eating pavement & smoking as they spin.

The whole plan of using a drag car for a juvenile "show off display" that most people get arrested for,
as a gimmick for a charity event without prior consideration for effective safety & control of the crowd,
is worse than stupidity or incompetence. It goes to negligence, perhaps to criminal negligence given,
the fact there was no sign of safety control exercised or visible. If there was, results would be different.

Okay, but besides the exercise & it's results, which are horrific for sure, associating it, over & over with
Organized, sanctioned Drag Racing is just wrong. Obviously none of the people guilty of any of it all,
were there when we had to legitimize and promote safe drag racing as the sport or competition it is.
I bet Wally Parks is in turmoil over the actions of the Selmer Lunatics & the resluts of their ignorance.

ok, the fella that crashed in the old chevy was probably on a bye run thats why he was racing alone. sometimes we get a bye when there is an odd number of cars in the event were racing in, the track can draw the bye on someone by pulling a card, draw strings, or let whoever shows up last, the Pro Mod car that crashed, I have a video here, from what im told he had problems with the throttle sticking, pro mod cars can push over 3000 HP! I am a huge fan of pro street and pro mod, but I have to say I think this was a huge mistake by the driver, the town who allows it I understand they have done it in the past and yes its very exciting to watch but when you are in a car that can be pushing over even 800 HP you should not even be driving it on a street these are RACE CARS ONLY and should be kept at the track, anyways here is the video
