Here's how it looked before:
I was in the Pull-A-Part in Nashville on Thursday and came across a 64-65 Lincoln Continental. The entire top half of the car had been torched off so all that was left was the firewall, engine compartment (with I'm guessing a 460 in place), frame and floor. The header panel was still there too, that's the only way I could tell what it was. I notice this really nice and really WIDE brake pedal with the stainless surround. I yanked it out and the pivot had the 5/8 hole and *looked* about the right width for my pedal bracket. I was using spacers for my current setup.
I took the pedal (and my other goodies) home and found that the pedal pivot was EXACTLY the right width for my pedal bracket, no spacers needed.
Here's the problems: it was 17 inches long (three inches longer than my current pedal) and had a pretty massive left dogleg. Cutting the dogleg out shortened it 3" and I added a booster bracket to correct the pedal ratio problem. Previously the booster was bolted directly to the firewall. The booster bracket angled the booster up, causing the pushrod to meet the pedal an inch lower than previously. The previous pedal ratio was 5.2:1 which makes the brakes easy to push but the travel is excessive for power brakes. The extra inch makes it a perfect 4:1, considered ideal for power brakes and the pedal travel is now PERFECT.
Here's the best thing. It looks AMAZING with the Lincoln pedal!
