Its the little things

Post by ras4434 »

So went to start the 65 yesterday and starter worked but now joy....new the starter switch was messed up and had a new one but hadn't gotten around to change it so did that first....no joy...its the ---- fuel pump again...ran a jumper from the battery to the fuel pump (on the rail under passenger door) and it works fine.....huuuuuu...when I got the truck I ran a new line from the original starter relay to a constant run relay and from there to a new fuse box for all the new goodies (as well as a cut off switch for the fuel pump)....that must be it, grab the test light and start looking......nothing to the new fuse box....---- relay....$35 at Oreileys and 30 minutes later......still no joy......I quite drinking 20 years ago but may have to start again....... After a strong drink of Diet Pepsi got out the fuse puller and replaced all the fuses......one was not burned through but rusted on one end....probably the original....works great...3 hours, $35 part and one stupid fuse.....wish it was something other than me not really looking at the easiest fix first. Oh well should have replaced the ignition switch a long time ago...must be punishment for procrastinating.

That sounds like a good day man, I once rebuilt the turbo on a srt 4 because it was blowing oil and had almost no boost, real pain in the butt, turns out it was just a $10 Pcv, 5 second repair.
It could always be worse, you could be working on a dodge....

i once replaced the column wiring on a 76 because i couldn't trace a short. turned out the glass fuse was broken, but would connect sporadically. i even had the fuse in the ashtray so except for the hours of frustration and a new to me used wiring harness thru the column all i had to do was replace a fuse that tested good. lol. i love this stuff.

Had a lil Mazda truck that was smoking and using oil. Decided to sell it when I got my slick. Had a buyer and decided to do the tune up since I had the part. That pcv fixed the oil issue but already had the money for it. I hate the lil things!

And I thought a masters education was expensive....this is being schooled the old way....if you are not driving it you didnt fix it, real obvious when you figured it out. Think I will change all the fuses just because.

Highboy are you going to the Portland Swap meet in April?
