T5 deals are out there. I checked CL 3 or 4 times a day for months. Found a decent T5 with a roller cam 5.0 longblock for $300. In reguards to RPM in 5th gear with a 3.89 rear gear I turn 2500 RPM at 80 MPH. T5 can be built to take some abuse. As far as T5 parts and service.

The only aftermarket part that he recommends as a must have is the countergear stabilizer.

I got a fairly low mile rebuilt for $400 with all the upgrades a few years ago. Don't forget a steel bearing retainer - a hands down must have.
One other note;
94-95 T5s are also WC behind 5.0s - they have a different bellhousing & about 1" longer input shaft (SN 95 is basically a stretched Fox Chassis).
As I understand it even the V6 cars had the WC T5 in 94-95 (?). It isn't too tough to just change the input shaft as these are a little more common now.
This is the T5 that is used behind a Y block or a 223 with the adaptor instead of the modded 3 speed bellhousing also.

Here's a better picture of 70MPH.

What I really like about it is no compromises in the daily driving. Great around town, great on the highway. I think the 3.25 is a bit high as a rear gear and a 3.50 or 3.70 would be a little better. Going much lower with rear gears would mean you were in 1st for a very short time though.

Sometimes you guys crack me up.

Is LM the only one here with a T-5 behind an FE?

You make it sound as easy as replacing a battery.

I sure havent seen these great deals on a 5.0 and a T-5, if I did, I would have one, maybe two of them.

Im still trying to get my PS and iron 4V manifold installed.

These trucks are big and the parts are heavy, Im 5'8" and its a long reach into the engine compartment for me. I think that I am going to pull the front clip to do the manifold swap, I dont think I can wrestle the new manifold on without screwing up the gaskets and sealent.

I dont know about the rest of you, but every project I get into ends up taking 3x longer and costing twice as much.
Over the hill and picking up speed!

bmcgc don't worry you're not alone. I say to my wife now, "it'll only take me an hour, 2 tops" and she says "I'll see you in 3-5 tops"

Want an alminum intake to put on it? They are a bunch lighter. Been thinking of putting this one on the '66 but don't want to kill the mileage. I also use a hoist to put on FE intakes.

Well, I just purchased a T5...and while its not a race to get it put in...I'll keep you posted

Oh and +1 on the hoist for the intake install...I still have one sitting on the ground cause I'm not ambitious enough to deal with it yet

Hoist for an FE intake, no other way IMHO -
and also use one for a straight 6 cylinder head....................
