Slick Reunion - All back in one place.

The place to talk Slicks. All we ask is that discussion has something to do with slicks...

Slick Reunion - All back in one place.

Post by Gritsngumbo »

I had intended to post this a couple of weeks ago, but life got in the way.
I now have all my Slicks in one place, on my property.

After spending several months getting my new home shop remodeled (demoing the maze of rooms some PO had built inside (2X6 walls with fire-rated sheetrock, with pieces delivered to the dump a pickup load at a time), I finally got my butt in gear and moved from my rented shop in West Monroe.
Thanks to my Chevy-loving good friend, (my Ford-loving friend bailed on me) who worked with me tirelessly for two weeks to complete the move. Here's a shot of one of the more challenging tasks (moving a Uni mounted on a rotisserie) which turned out to be remarkably easy as a result of proper planning.Image
My hauler and my winch setup worked out well and as I had hoped for after all my planning.
Although I had hoped to be able to move a little bit at a time and get things organized, it didn't happen as I was anxious to avoid paying another month's rent.
Pretty good job for a couple of "old farts" (He's 67 and I'm 70 now) although I did get a couple of young guys from the halfway house to help move workbenches, body parts, etc. that we so cumbersome that they had to be hand-carried onto the trailer on one Sunday. Three trips.
I don't have as much inside storage as I did before, so I'm having to figure out what to put where to keep it somewhat protected. Didn't realize I had accumulated so much stuff. Plans are to eventually put a carport-type cover over the 20X50 pad where the four Slicks are parked.
It's great to have everything in one place and just a short walk away.

You betcha

Here are a couple of shop (40X40 with a 20X40 guest house with carport) and shop overflow pics.

Two 4X8 rolling tables that area great, but don't think I'm going to be able to use more than one.
This carport is full of lumber from the demo (which will be porches for my wife's Tiny House) and a defunct pool table that needs to be taken apart and taken to the dump.

Quite a collection, Gerald!
I like your unibody support fixtures! Looks like you might be planning to do another uni after this one :P
I make a non-wheeled, manually-adjustable setup for the 73/79 cabs years ago; hopefully, I'll get the twin-post lift installed to ease that job on the uni. The ol' twin-boom and a couple of front end loaders work fairly well, but leave a lot to be desired!
Six is my current number for slicks, also; it's amazing I actually have three which will move under their own power currently!
I'm jealous, lots of space, lots of concrete, and a beautiful place with a lake!

Thanks Paul. I'm very fortunate to have the shop/yard setup and Slick collection that I have (including a supportive wife), although (as you know) you never have enough storage space. I have a warehouse on my wish list for my vacant lot, but that may or may not happen (all depends on that danged ship). I have one Slick that runs and drives (Little Red) and the 63 F250 just needs a starter solenoid to be on the road. I screwed up when I was moving and dropped the insurance on it and now I need to get square with the DMV as they're pissed that I didn't turn in my plates. I'm sure that'll leave a mark.
I bought the rotisserie from Accessible Systems http://www.accessiblesystems.com/bul/15/15.php
Joel is top notch and easy to work with and together we designed the brackets to specifically fit the slicks and the Uni in particular. Big Red's (63 Uni) been on the rotisserie for a couple of years now (shooting for Chris's record with his Torino :-) ). Got stalled out when I got sick and that reminds me I need to follow up with him on how the rear brackets worked on the Uni. The torque box was in much worse shape than I had envisioned, so I need to make a decision to go forward or not. Too many projects and I sometimes wonder if I should let some of them go to "better" homes as I wonder if I will ever get around to doing them justice. That being said, I do need a 4X4, and a wrecker, and a nice Slick daily driver with PS and Air  And I have my eye on an N-600 in Alabama.

Keep at it Grits, you have almost as many slicks as me. I have quit telling people how many trucks I own because I keep getting looks like I need a keeper.

Know what you mean. I also hear a lot of "what're you going to do with them, sell them?". The answer is NO!

Protect it with my life :-), as it belongs to my B-I-L. He refurbished/restored his father's 71(?) "bought-new" Bronco, jacked it up with big tires/wheels. Looks good, but not what I would have done. Doubt he'll ever put it on again, but...storing it is part of my family penance.

I made the mistake of selling mine prior to move to this house and building my shop, it was in perfect condtion, I have kicked myself in the butt several times for selling it. My problem is I want one back, but more than likely I would never install on the truck either.

There are several for sale here in Houston, one for $1,000 that doesn't even have the glass in it and the other for $450 which has been paint black but is actually in pretty good shape. What I really would like is a half cab, problem with that is the roll bar though.

It's nice to have everything in one spot, it took me twenty years but I think I have all my stuff in one location now?

I had this one stored in the far corner of a storage building at my previous shop. My first inclination was to leave it but my buddy said they were worth something so we moved it.
Yes having everything in one place is nice, but now I just have to find what box put what in and get it into some kind of order.
BTW: I will ask him if he's interested in selling it if you're interested.

I guess it doesn't hurt to ask, all he can say is no, or I want a million dollars for it!
