Re: Ignition removal
There should be a tiny little hole in the actual cylinder itself. I used a sewing needle, but anything small enough to fit in the hole will work. Push the needle into the hole and then turn the key, I think its the acc direction and the whole barrel will continue past where it usually stops and spring out. You do need the key that fits the barrel though.
Hope that helps!

Re: Ignition removal
I turn the key left until it stops, then use a straightened paper clip to depress the catch in the little hole and turn the key farther left. It then should pull out.

Re: Ignition removal
Ok, so I got the switch replaced in my truck. Now, that I know how to get the tumbler OUT...... why can't I get it back in? I've fought on and off for about three days now. Do I need a bigger hammer or am I not holding my toes right? I have tried to line everything up just right, it slides in and goes in much farther than I think it should because it looks to be sunk in way too much to be flush with the front of the switch like it was when I started this project. It also just falls right back out.

Re: Ignition removal
Did you try putting it back in using the paper clip method?
Re: Ignition removal
Tired putting i in in the exact reverse of removal. I'm stumped and frustrated. I plan to try a few more times today and then if I can't get it I'll go with the hand grenade method. There HAS to be something simple that I'm missing. What makes me wonder is why does it seem to go in the switch much deeper than it seems like it should? It's almost like there is a piece missing behind the tumbler in the switch housing. I see a small spring that should be behind the tumbler and a groove that the notch on the rear of the tumbler recesses into (I assume). It looks just like the original switch that I'm replacing and it has the "FORD" logo inside the oval so I assume it's a genuine Ford part.
I'm sure I'll figure it out but I'm hoping someone has been here before and can steer me in the right direction. Thanks for all of the help guys.
