O/T My latest (Ford) acquisition

Well recently I was fortunate enough to be given a bonus at work, so....this is what I bought! :D

It has already gone straight into storage until I get my uni road worthy and then my Jeep on the trail again. Some of you have already seen it, but it will be a fenderless hot rod in a late 50's vintage. My goal is to be done with it by the time I'm 50. So that gives me 6+ years. I've nver built a car from the ground up, so this ought to be interesting :roll:

Seriously, in order of preference:
392 Hemi
312 Y block

And the interior is perfect, an early 60s re-do. It stays. Car last titled in '62 that's why I think the re-do was early 60's.

I agree with Garbz, it just screams FLATHEAD and really, what else deserves to ride in those rails. God forbid a mouse ever gets close to that old Henry. If it does I hope somebody stomps on it.
One of my friends at work has a 1930 A 2 door sedan he is building with a custom tube frame. It is z'ed in the front 4 inches and 8 in the back. Should set the body down pretty low. He was looking at Wire Wheels to go on it, but found out they ate up too much of his budget, so now he's going painted steelies. Oh yeah, Red Steelies, Red frame, Red engine,
Black semi-gloss body. Way Cool.

O.K. as long as you're reaching for power(hemi,sbc,etc.) Iwould slap a 427 medium riser in it.
My personal preference???

I should also mention the flathead. Probably 3rd on my list of preferences. But like I said, I want a late 50's style build, and by then, flatheads were dead. Plus, for about the same money, I can build something that really screams with a 392. Don't get me wrong, I love flatheads, nothing comes close to sounding like them and they look cool as hell. It's just not the era I'm after. Another consideration would be a Nailhead, but that won't happen. I had a '65 Buick Riv GS with a factory dual quad 425 and for such a heavy car, that thing screamed. I can't imagine putting that same motor in a car almost half its weight. :shock:

If the 3.8 wasn't such a pain head gasket wise, one of those supercharged engines would be nice, but not 50's. If you want user freindly, and gas wise, a four cylinder Ranger engine would set in there nicely, and there are performance parts for those engines. In addtition you would have to beef the frame up so much for the extra power.

Rich, this is going to be a hot rod. Pure and simple hedonistic hot rod pleasure. It is nothing about getting from point A to point B, it is all about the journey. If I wanted a 4 cylinder, I wouldn't be building this, instead, I'd just drive my VW around. This is excess at it's level best in my way of thinking. Who the hell cares if gas goes to $5 a gal. I'm building it to drive it-for the fun of it.

My engine choices were: HEMI, Early Caddy Overhead, or Olds. My paramaters are to stick to a pre-1953 theme custom and while it would be customary to keep the flatmotor in it, engine swaps were very common and who could argue with the power that an overhead could produce stock compared to a hot flatty?

A four cylinder would be really cool in his car if only it were a 270 OFFY.

Spent all day Wed. on Lake WA with a buddy in his recently restored '72 Century Arabian boat...guess what-it has a marine 454 Chev in it and that sucker is torquey. He and I are both Ford guys, but now I'm thinking that 454 would be killer in my coupe!

Seriously, I really don't care what other people do to their cars. It's not mine, I don't pay the bills, so I don't really care. If I were to buy it, that's a different story. I'm a hot rodder at heart and swapping motors is what we do. If I was building a factory perfect resto, then it's different, of course. While I respect the resto stuff and enjoy looking at it and talking with the owners and understand their obvious pride, at the end of the day, I'm a tinkerer. I think all hot rodders are. None of my toys have the original motors in them. My '61 has a '71 T-bird 390. My '71 hiboy truck will have a 460 (running a spare 360 I had laying around right now, but even it is not the motor that came in the truck), my Jeep has a fuel injected AMC 401 (came with a carbed 304) and my model a will have a 392 Hemi.

Yeah, I agree. The decision is pretty much already made, but the others did get some consideration. I will not compromise on this build. It's a present to ME :lol: and I'm building it to keep until I die, so I do not care if someone else doesn't like what I'm doing.
Nice 3 window ELP! I think I saw that on the HAMB earlier. Have you had it awhile?
