How to Install Accelerator Pedal Spring

Post by RonMele »

My restored daily driver 66 is ready for the road and I'm bringing it to a couple small shows in Connecticut this weekend.

One issue I'm having is putting the gas pedal back on (of all things). This truck uses the firewall mounted linkage and the pedal mounts to the bottom of it. Parts manual shows a spring that I believe I have though there does not appear to be any logical way to attach this spring. (I got the spring from LMC so who knows if it's for this pedal or another one...) The parts manual (illustrations) shows this spring but it's not a good picture and it's not obvious. Anybody got a clue or hint?

Thanks,
Ron

I know on the 64 I got the only spring I have is on the carb... I do have a return spring on the brake...

The only spring on my 66 is at the carb. The pedal will just flap without the cable.

Its a good practice to have dual springs on your linkage.Just slip one inside the other and hook them up. Scarey as hell if you break the only one you have and the throttle goes to the floor. Bob

Thanks for the replies, guys. I have the spring near the carb and of course the throttle retard spring ON the carb...but it is the pedal that is giving me fits.

I have some various sized spring clips that I'm going to try on the pedal tomorrow. One way or another THIS truck is going to the show this weekend!

Yea, it's kind of goofy one part hooks over the pedal arm and the other end just pushes against the accelerator pedal. I remove the pedal assembly off the firewall, remove the pedal, repair the pedal pivots using trimmed down sheetrock plastic inserts and install the pedal spring then remount the pedal to the firewall. Don't lose those tiny E clips. BTDT!
