Stuck Inlet Valve/Crankcase Cleaning

Just a tale of woe and frustration. I have Been driving the other cars so my 65 has sat likely a month or more. This morning I went to start it and it cranked up and sounded horrible, I started to back up just as it died and I coasted backwards blocking my neighbors driveway. It stalled out and had left a wide path of gas. Inlet valve on the carb had stuck open, and the gas cap had kept pressure on the nearly full gas tank. It had filled the engine to the brim with gas. I drained the crankcase of some very black gasoline and oil mixture. Freed the inlet valve, and put some fresh oil in. Started it up and it's running ok. I drilled a 1/32 hole in the one way valve of the gas cap so it does not keep pressure on the tank. Fear I may have blown out the front or rear main seals of the engine. Alas the engine is so worn it is due for a rebuild anyway.

Make sure you have a venting cap if your running the original tank. Parts stores love to sell the non-venting version as it looks the same but is not correct.
