and this one has been beaten pretty hard. only 2 years by me though.traded a big battery and some window glass for it.
no brakes, would not drive it on the road,steering gearbox shot, front springs flat,no headlights, no unsmashed body parts big hole where passenger floor was, bad starter relay, been using screwdriver since i got it.
its 360 always fires right up ,has not used a drop of oil, new radiator, 4x4 and all driveshafts perfect shape.when i got it the clutch disc was gone, so i replaced it with a used one i had.
today i worked her in the woods, drove over a few stumps, grazed a tree, pulled a piece of hanging tree down with the tailgate hinge because the chain i had was too short to reach the bumper.

not a lot of wood, i have had more in 2wd f100s, as much to make the rear bumper drag on the ground.weather is changing so i need to get the heat supply up.this was about an hour of cutting/loading this afternoon.

Ice, every day I see about 1/2 dozen or so unrestored Bumpsides still being used as work trucks. They are tough old buggers.

Never see any unrestored Chevs of that era.

thats because no one knows how to properly shim a chevy starter so they all have toothless flywheels.(among other issues)
truth is i dont see too many either.

Lonnie, it varies by year, depending on how cold.also finally living in the new addition and bought a new wood furnace, just got it fired a few days ago so it will be more this year.
the Alaska cord = 4'x4'x8'. costs me roughly $125 delivered, think we bought 8 last winter and cut a couple of our own.the load in the picture is about 1/2 cord, couple weeks now if the temps dont drop below 20 at night.only wood available is birch and spruce, i miss the oak and maple from back east as it burned hotter and left more coals.

it's not the shims it's the wrong info that will get you the wrong part every time

Did you miss the part were he burnt 10 cords of wood and spent $1000 to do it? That don't include all the fire-feeding at 4am and splitting in 40 below involved.

I'm with JC. I would love to visit you Iceman but I believe I will stay where I am.MO is home. Neat pics, thanks for sharing. My yard is 98% oak 5 in the front and who knows in the back.

i cut up that load today.
you all dont see this the right way
the idea is to put enough wood in to avoid getting up at 4am.
the other thing is, 20 to 40 below is the proper time to split wood because its very easy to do.makes you feel like Hercules when you split a 16 inch diameter log in one hit.
but today (Thursday) morning i woke up to see the ground white, and of course all the trucks.spent the whole day picking up parts, moving trucks and cleaning up the stuff i should have a few weeks ago.installed weight in the bed of the wifes f100 4x4, consists of 9 square plastic buckets of sand and a 200 lb. log.dug out my winter tires, going to put them on tomorrow and i am going to use an airplane tire on wheel with air in mine for weight.anyone want to stop by and help me roll it up into the bed?

this is the furnace we bought last spring.made in Tennessee by U.S. stove. lots of fun getting it out of the p.o.'s basement.not so bad getting it into ours as we have an outside door to it.i have modified it with a big plenum and ductwork so we are heating our house from underneath now.
