I am on the flip side of the coin here. I work in electronics and computers. I save the scrap I get to recycle, I always have. I work on the side and when I get something that is junk I strip it to save it from going to the land fill. Now with all these deadbeats out there stealing wire it makes it harder to sell the stuff. I also wind up with scrap metal, old copper pipe from redoing campers and aluminum. Now when I take it off its like you have to prove you didn't steal it. I don't have enough to sell often so they don't remember me. Now they are passing laws here in TN to where you almost have to be a business to sell the stuff. I plan to round all of mine up and sell it in June before the new laws go into effect. All of my scrap is mine and not stolen. I have to go through this crap all because of the thieves. But they just burn the wires and sell it out of state or the black market. As far as the meth goes its here also. A guy I know of in west TN had a camper in mint condition worth probably 2-4 grand. A bunch of junkies stole thew aluminum off the side. They just ripped it off the sides. They probably sold it for 20-30 bucks scrap. Now he has a trailer only worth about 100 bucks for parts, the replacement new aluminum would run close to the value.

Zed you are right ,I shouldn't tar all police with the same brush, but when some bum has come along and pulled out 2 weeks worth of work and the valuable materials the last thing you want to hear is its not worth the trouble we wont get prints off that pipe, pigs arse the sweat off your hands lightly etches the copper and until it is rubbed off or worn off it stays there but yes there is much they can do. I hope I didn't rub you up the wrong way too much. :)

Nah, I am pretty thick skinned (No Pun intended.) I like to have conversations with intelligent people. Part of the reason I have Police acquaintances and other acquaintances, who have different types of careers and different outlooks on things. I am firm in my beliefs, but so are many others and I know it is not fun to be frustrated.

Lucky I`m pretty thick skinned too!, because they came back last night and took the high stuff and some thermostatic mixing valves as well.
This last lot is 2" copper but was in a high ceiling space, the window fitters worked back last night and left their scaffold out, guess who used what?
We are now waiting for the constabulary to show up!.The Chinese Gyproc fixer was fighting mad as well, they took a 20ltr bucket of his top coat finisher.

I wont get in an argument about it, but I will say that I have only once, in my entire 28 years, met or seen a cop that didnt turn out to be an absolute scumbag. I have no respect for cops of any type, after having been burned too much over the years.

All but one have turned out to be thieves and corrupt in one way or another.

This is also why I roll my eyes when theres a funeral for a fallen cop, (run over while pulling over a blonde and flirting with her, then stepping out in front of a truck no less) and 2 states worth of cops take paid leave + state fuel and funding to go "honor" him. Not to mention closing down some of the roads to do it.

Maybe one day I'll meet the second cop that isnt a jerk though.

I don't know that many cops, so no opinion there, but my experience with Lawyers is the same.
Maybe that explains why so many Lawyers become politicians.

An example that furthers my disgust of all law enforcement was in the news lately, of some city in Texas panicking because they were 50 or some million in deficit because their red-light cameras were working too well and they werent giving out tickets for running red lights. They were actually considering taking out the red-light cameras so they could get more tickets.

If its really about "saving lives" they should be happy people arent running red lights, instead of wanting to have more people kill themselves simply to get more money.

Nothing but digust here.

Speaking Of Texas, last trip in Texas just where 20 splits and you could go towards Ft. Worth running the speed limit with bunch of semi's and we come up on this piece of junk chevy with carpet stacked to the roof in tje bed swaying all over, had to make a move and backed out of it, well who gets pulled over but me cop says was following to close well had few words for him asked why me since that piece of xxxx goes like that , well wanted to know about my license, then wanted to know if had weapons on me, well just my smallbox cutters, well he took that from me handcuffed me to my truck said he did not want to turn his back on me, asked me any weapons or excessive cash in the truck, then went to the
truck asked Kathy and the dog to get out while searching my truck, did not find a xxxxxxx thing uncuffed me laid my box cutters on the dash and then thanked me for my cooperation after wasting a hour or so while all these cars/trucks passing us making me look like public enemy # 1 of course over the years not my first run in with Texas lot of speeding tickes told us not to come to court, just send money or be like Montanna the officer spoke the truth, his boss said having a picinic get the first 3 trucks for the donation and my favorites is Az. no speeding tickets , just wasting fuel tickets plain BULLXXXX :!:

it's things like Junkyard Dogs post above that make me despise most government officials and all law enforcement. We've had our own share of personal experiences too, its not just hearsay. There may be a small percentage of them that are decent, but in my experience its in the .01 share.

Tom in Montana (and I have heard other states too,) they make Canucks fork the cash out for a speeding ticket right there and then (just like Mexico). You can bet the fine trooper takes it straight back to the station and throws it in the government treasury too.
If you believe that, I have a nice chebby to sell you.

In Az in the 70'S and 80'S had plenty of tickets for wasting fuel so that speeding tickets would not go against our one of 3 license we carried most likely before your time when also 55 mph speed limit was really in a true meaning, when we left NC on SAT.delivered In Long Beach, Ca. be in Ca about 3:00-5:00 in the morning on Monday only one way to do it was to have your foot in it with a truck that would run 120mph + and do 4 trips a month like this be back Wed. or Thur. at the market in Raleigh, heck if we left to go out west and either me or Kathy did not get a ticket that was a bad trip. Between NC and Texas it was alays a toss up on who had the fastest trucks, but Nascar Trucks where the fastest I have seen on the open road
