F1000 body on F-150 frame

Post by teamhaney »

I always wondered if you could take an old Slick big truck body - f-600 and up, and slap it on a newer frame. They don't seem to rust as much and would look cool. Anybody ever try that trick?

I'm sure it has been done before. I'm going to do it with a 66 F800 Super Duty cab & front clip I have. Thinking of using a school bus for the chassis.

There was one on eGouge about a year ago that was on a newer chassis...going cheap, as an unfinished project. Definitely had the possibility of being something cool.
Thought I had pics of it, but can't find 'em. :?

If it starts to rain, they'll tax the splash.
If you want to fish, they'll tax the bass.
If you plant a yard, they'll tax the grass.
If you don't play nice, they'll fine your *$#!

They are boat anchors for a hot rod, industrial type of motor. Work great in a big truck or pumping water.

Can you imagine the parts cost on rebuilding the 535? Wonder if that is an International engine?

Pretty sure they are all Ford, the ones we had ran on natural gas and pumped water 24/7 months on end. They should have been a diesel.

534

Post by bluebolt »

From Wiki

The Ford Super Duty engine was a truck engine from Ford Motor Company.

A V8 engine produced in displacements of 401, 477, or 534 cubic inches, the Super Duty was introduced in 1958 along with the FE and MEL series V8s. These engines appeared in medium and heavy-duty trucks of the time and were large, heavy, slow speed engines. They were never designed as automobile engines.

Those 534/477 are like a tank engine heavy slow & expensive to run. Can you say 4/5 mpg.

I heard that they were first set to be a diesel but when they couldn't keep them together they made em gas powered. Then Ford worked with Cat to come up with the V8 diesel a 1160 then the 3208.

Our local fire dept. had a cabover with a 534/auto combo. Just out of the village there is a 2 mile long hill that has a pretty good grade on it. If the truck had to climb the hill to get to your house your house burned to the ground.

I always thought the 3208 are a cool engine. Years ago at work we got a bunch of trade school buses with 3208 cats in them. When we started 4 or 5 of them at a time they filled town with blue smoke.

3208 cat and 534 is the same block with different crank heads & pistons for low compression and a carburetor intake in lieu of direct injection.

If any one has a set of 534 heads Farmer Bill is looking for a set for his latest monster, a 3208 cat with gas heads runnin on alky....

Medium hp engines but gobs of torque and that's what moves weight....

Tom 4 to 5 is a conservative gas mileage, on the high end...

I would think there would be some around here as so many of them use to be in service in the area. But they may have been sold for scrap. I'll put out a feeler.

I Mechaniced for Arizona Public Service Company from 1971 through 1990. Most of our Line Trucks were the C models from 600s on up. All the earlier ones had the 477, then gradually changed over to the 534s, then later, they changed to the 3208s. After I retired from there, they have been transitioning more to the conventional type cabs. Over the years, I became very familiar with the C models and the 534s, and as has been stated, they are a very big(physically) block that is very heavy for anything but Heavy Duty use. They did run for a long time and did produce a lot of power, but they used an amazing amount of gas doing it.
