Diffrences in 65 and 66 f-100's

Post by Pantech »

So my title says its a 66 but from what ive seen the grill is 65. Im not sure if someone just put on a 65 grill. So i dont know what year it is. Is there anything else that sets the 2 years apart from eachother?

check vin number lasy 6 numbers will tell you that, side emblems are different 65 says Ford F-100 across the top of it, 66 say Ford acroos the top only with either 100 or 250 in the bottom lettering,, 65 park light lens has a ground wire where 66 does not, 66 core support look on pass side behind grill you should see 3 cage nuts sticking through holding battery tray, where 65 will not have those 3 cage nuts, 66 radiator mounts flush to support where 65 has a flangethat brings rad towards motor, inner fenders look at bottom by support, 66 just hangs there, where 65 mounts to the bottom of the support for extra support of the inner fenders,, look at the drivers side frame rail right behind where support is should be a number stamped from Ford starting with C6TA Right above where a slot is to put a safety chain, lets see don't believe I missed anything else, some firewall stampings have seen different between 65 and 66 really need the 2 trucks next to each other to see it, now all this is for 2 wheel trucks

The easiest way I use to at least get me in the ballpark is by looking at the gas pedal. If it's bolted to the floor, it's '65 or earlier. If it's suspended from above, it's a '66.

Although, I think it's possible that a very late '65 could have a suspended pedal, but for sure all 66's have it, as far as I know.

Slick that was a mid year change for the 65's so a 65 could have a suspended pedal too.
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

Somewhere along the way, the tailgate latch access plate (from the inside) changed as well. Its possible that this detail was a 64-65 thing though (remember the styleside bed arrived in 64.) I just know that my current tailgate is different than one of my other tailgates.....

CC 66 got different rims and larger hubcaps.

The door tags are different. The 65 door tag is about 1.5 inches high and the 66 door tag is about .75 inches high.

I always looked for the indentation in the middle of the roof. Thought that was a 66 model year only feature.

64 65 & 66 all had that. The roof was also about 1" taller on them.

Right, I forgot all about the door tags.
Here's two of mine. '65 on top & a painted over '66 on bottom.

If the VIN on the title & VIN on your tag matches the VIN stamped on the frame, then you've definitely got it nailed down. 8)

Well all 3 should match, Door Tag + Frame + Title.

In KS you don't have to have the door tag it is not a "VIN Tag" only a "Warenty Tag"

But check with your local DMV.
