Haven't posted in a while as I've been workin on my frame off when time permits. The chassis is starting to go back together now (after sandblasting and POR15 on everything).
My question is for anyone who might have had the rear apart. I just put the diff back in and put the backing plates with the new brakes back in. Then I put the grease baffle on. When I put the hubs back on with the new bearings it went into place fine but the hub is barely hitting the nuts for the grease baffle in a couple of spots when the hub rotates.
I rotated the nuts so they are at the optimum angle for clearance. The hub was painted and that adds just a bit of thickness.
Is the tolerance really that tight? Or did I screw up? Anybody think of anything?

First of all I have no direct experience with your problem...
Just a couple of thoughts...
Did you use new bolts..or nuts? They might be a different thickness than stock....
Different brand of Bearings and races than stock..??I have seen variations of a couple thousands between brands....Jap stuff is especialy bad that way.
Good luck, let us know what you find.

Thanks...I did use new nuts so I will be checking to see if I can find any with a thinner wall. Bearings are from NPD and they are foreign jobs. There seems to be a seem on the hub casting that is doing all the hitting. All I know is it didn't do it before but I'll figure it out somehow. Won't get to it again til next week.

If your not in a big hurry I can take a wheel and drum off my truck tomorrow at work and take a pic of how mine is setup and measure some things for you and post them up tomorrow about the same time.
I want to say the back of the hub did come close to those bolts but I cant remember anymore since I rebuilt my rearend almost a year ago now.

Did you put the nuts toward the drum? On mine the nuts are on the opposite side of the backing plate than the drum. The bolts have flat oval heads to prevent clearence issues.
Send e-Mail address and I will send picture of setup with drum off.

i looked this up in the factory manual, the nuts are supposed to be on the drum side, so if you used new nuts rather than the factory type then they are going to be too thick. factory has locking nuts which are not as thick.Blackwaterforge wrote:Did you put the nuts toward the drum?
