Body differences

I am considering buying a 1961 f-250 4x4. What I need to know is what body parts will interchange between 61 and 66. I have a 1976 f-250 4x4 that I can use the drive train out of (390,4 spd. trans,205 transfer case,d-60 rear and d-44 front). I love these series of trucks but I am partial to the looks of the 65/66's.

Ion welcome to the club.
a 61 F250 is going to have a box that matches the 57-60 trucks. Correct for all F250's the whole run of 61-66 slicks too.

The whole front clip, i.e outer fenders, front grille face, hood, bumper and rock guard can be swapped with any other year. So if you wanted, say a 66 front grille and upper valence on a 61 you could do that.
The inner fenders and radiator support are different on the twin I beamed trucks of 65 and 66.

So, that might get you started. The cabs on the F250 4x4 are all the ones from the big trucks for 61-66.. the one with the battery box in the floor under the passenger's feet.

JC, the 4x4 front fenders have a larger opening also. Not that the 'normal' fenders may not work, but it's something to be aware of.

The 61 4X4 will have same major body parts as 61-64. The later 65 & 66 or Generation II Slicks have slightly different body parts, and completely different chassis/ frame parts. The 61-64 generally speaking are sittting on 57-64 style chassis, as least in 4X2 versions. There are more cross over features among the 4X4 chassis however between the 57-64 & later.

The real difference is the 65 & later will virtually bolt onto a 65-79 chassis with a few tweaks here & there while the 61-64 will not. Altho it may be accomplished with a some fabrications creativity & improvisation.

i have done both conversions.best and easiest is a 65-66 2wd f100 or f250 on a later 67-up frame, pretty much a bolt on as Pete says.
putting an early 61-64 or 61-66 f250 4x4, f350 and up cab on a later frame requires much more work, i am almost done with one now

I should have qualified what i said about F250 beds by saying "for 4x4's". I believe F250 2wd's after and including 1964 have the matching styleside bed.

O.k. So now I am looking the 1962 f-250 4x4 on e-bay. My question is will a 65/66 cab, bed, fenders (inner and outer), grill etc... bolt on to this chassis?

If the bed of the 62 has round rear tail lights the 65,66 bed will not fit the chassis, wheel base is shorter than a 65,66 long bed but longer than a short bed. Ford did some crazy things with the 4x4 I think the cab from a 65,66 will fit the 62 frame but not sure! but the fenders and grill will bolt up with using the inner fenders from the 62
