I say buy it.

The grill and upper valance is a 66, but the cab roof and hood spears tells me it is a 62. Those hood spears were only available on the 61 & 62s.

By the way, buy it.

I'm convinced. Spoke with the owner again today to tell him I wanted it. Now, we have to jump throught the legal hoops as the title is apparently lost somewhere. I'm starting the process of tracking down the last person to license it and proceed from there. Spoke with a very nice lady at the DMV today and she is helping me all she can tracing ownership and told me there are ways to re-title if necessary. She said it would just be easier if we can track down the original title. Here's hopin' me friends. My imagination is already working overtime for what I can do with this cool rig.

Yeah, I'm kind of excited now. Guess I'm going to have to learn how to operate a two rig. Heck, if nothing else a guy could bring in a few bucks locally with it. I'm waiting on some info from the DMV about the title and then check into insurance and licensing. My first plan is to see how much shine I can get out of that old paint job and see if I can peel those stickers off without damaging it. I have a friend who is good with an air brush and will be getting together with him to bounce around ideas of a logo to paint on the doors. Any suggestions are welcome. Something catchy and Slicky.

That old Holmes unit will lift a tank.
That sling won't work with most modern cars though.
The decals being all on the white make it fairly easy - if you do have to repaint after they come off it's only 1 color.
Color combination on it is cool too.
Make sure you have all the proper insurances if you use it to tow people.
Congrats on your new Slick!

Dont mess with the old logos. Thats the coolest thing about it. If you want to change them get magnetic ones and put them over the top of the old ones.

Good suggestion Mike. I'll do that. Still open to suggestions for the magnetic ones. There is a sign shop here that makes the magnetic stuff and will do anything on them. One idea my girlfriend had was to get one that says "Jays Snake Ranch and Towing--We Haul Asp". I don't think I'll be doing much towing other than my own and favors for friends. Yeah, the guy I'm buying it from also said the slings don't work on modern cars but he can help me build something to fit that would if I needed it. That was his original plan for it until he got a good buy on a modern tow truck for his shop. He says the insurance for towing isn't bad in Nebraska but I'm thinking I won't really get that involved. I just love the look of that truck and the novelty of it. Not to mention how rarely one of these shows up in this kind of condition. I like the colors and design on it too. If I ever put a paint job on it I will likely have it redone the same way.

Might I suggest something like this for the magnetic signs:

That's good. Saved it in my publishing program to experiment with colors, etc. Still on the chase for the lost title. So far I've talked with two previous owners that swear they gave it to the other and have found that the original owner is now deceased. Looks like I may as well start the process of getting a new title issued and running around getting all the previous owners to sign off. I do know that the truck was purchased at an auction when the original owners family sold off his shop and equipment so the title had to be legally signed off by them. That brings me back to the first of the two following owners to sign off and then the other one. I'm hoping to have this all done before Thanksgiving. Oh well, what's life without some adventure, eh? Still not sure on the year of the rig. I'm suspecting it was titled as a 66. One old gent here that is into old Fords told me that when trucks were ordered with the tow package they were sometimes put together from left over, but new, parts wherever they were assembled. He too said this one had a mishmash of body parts on it and for all purposes would be considered to be a model of the year it was built.

By the way--Donica and I wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and your families. May your life be full of things to be thankfull for.

Eureka!! Paprework found. The title to the tow rig has been found and the deal is done. The state even waived any back taxes so it only cost me $25.00 taxes, $5.00 registration fee and $6.00 for the new title. Nebraska is fairly forgiving on back vehicle taxes. If it has been more than one year and one day they forgive the taxes to the new owner and it all starts over. It is titled as a 62 F350.

Figured out why the grill and upper valance are of 66 vintage. When I spoke with the original owners son in Callaway, NE he told me his dad had used the truck to push a tractor around their place and the rear end of the tractor slipped up over the front bumper of the tow truck and crushed the front pieces. This was before the push bumper and guard were on the truck. They replaced the pieces from a 66 that they had towed in from a wreck out on the highway. The entire rear part of the 66 was destroyed but the front pieces were good. So, you guys were right about it having mixed body parts on it.

For now the truck is sitting behind the guys shop with a charger on the battery and he's going to do an oil change on it in the morning.

Another nice surprise from all the tracking is that it is verified to have only 48,000 miles on it.

Now to talk to the insurance people.
