The other thing to check is the inlet and discharge balls and make sure they are in the correct location. There are two balls and they are not the same size. The inlet ball is the larger of the two.
During decel, there is a transition circuit that comes into play that would probably work in an interesting manner if it wasn't configured correctly.
The old gaskets in my carb are leaking all over the place. I'm surprised it ran as well as it did!

no steve. i will have to apologize, it does seem to be vacuum related, but i for the life of me can't tell where it's coming from. i cannot make it do it from a stop. revving in the driveway from under the hood or with the foot feed, but as soon as i start driving and let off the gas i can hear the whistle.
it is driving me crazy.
it is driving me crazy.

how loose is the butterfly shaft in the carb housing ? air may be sucked in around the shaft as you are letting off the gas and the plate is closing and the vac is rising. not going to do it with short revs.ezernut9mm wrote:no steve. i will have to apologize, it does seem to be vacuum related, but i for the life of me can't tell where it's coming from. i cannot make it do it from a stop. revving in the driveway from under the hood or with the foot feed, but as soon as i start driving and let off the gas i can hear the whistle.

Years ago, I had two different friends with Toyota 4x4 pickups that developed the same problem (but at different times)....they would let off the gas to upshift (manual trans), and there would be a brief chirp......it turned out the exhaust manifold bolts were loose in both cases.....we knew what to do to the second one from the same symptoms in the previous case:)
