I pulled the old SN off with the idea of upgrading to a Novi and a Gilmer drive; then discovered the crank pulley for the Gilmer cleared the radiator by less than a quarter inch, not even enough room to get the belt on. I ended up putting the carb on another blow-through application, so now the forced induction is on hold until I get around to moving the drivetrain back a little. This will also help the tight header clearances a little; it just won't happen soon!
I have both the stock hood and a Thunderbolt style glass; I really want to run the dual snorkel, but haven't found a way to make it feed the Paxton!
You really have an outstanding combination; have you ever considered painting them a Bright Red?

Hi Paul, must be a tight fit in your engine bay, know what you mean about header clearance, it took me about 4 weeks to make my headers for the comet, they are 1 7/8" into 3 1/2" collectors, & I have to drop the engine onto them.

funny that you say that Paul, the name of the red on the truck is called "bright red" & the comet is the original Ford torch red, although the annoying thing is when photographed in the sun they look orange.

Finally got the tray fitted to the truck last weekend, still needs a bit of finishing off but is ready enough to load up to make its first big trip with the comet aboard, heading to the winternationals drag event, 1200 mile round trip, hopefully everything goes to plan. John

Once again WOW, what a combo. excellent workmanship.
Curious as to what the fuel mileage will be when hauling that on your 1200 miles. Im considering doing something simialr so any advice would be helpful.

Thanks Paul, I am planning on taking some good pics on the way, the tray is 17`2" long & 7`6" wide the tray is fixed at the moment as I didn`t have time for anything else, but when I get back I will be making a hinge up for the back & fitting a hydraulic ram to lift the front about as high as the roof, & using ramps 12` long. John

Thanks, no worries I will be checking the mileage figures & will let you know although being the first trip I think I may be able to improve the mileage with a bit more time.

Just back from the trip, the truck cruises great, sits on 60mph at 2500rpm on a good road, on a steep hill only goes back to 3rd in high range on the diff, got around 10 mpg I think I could improve that a little with a bit of tuning, still haven`t got the paxton hooked up yet as I haven`t had time.

Beautiful truck, you did an outstanding job. The color combo, the visor, air conditioner, Mercury emblems, its all so perfect. And your Comet, really nice '64 you have. The best year for the Comet IMO. What a combo. Very Impressive!

Thanks Leeroy, I like how it turned out, I haven`t heard of any other Merc trucks here either, but you can never tell what will turn up. The dynamat is great, I have used it on my wifes hotrod, the comet & now the truck, its a bit expensive but worth it, I used almost 2 boxes on the cab, I put it everywhere, the cab is quiet on the road & keeps the warmth in, I dont think I need the heater after the trip up north through Guyra. we have a site at Bendigo swap, might bring the truck down this year. John
