In light of some comments about the position of the light and wiper knobs, is this not correct? I have my lights first and then the wipers, does this mean I have them backward?
Depends on if your truck is a 61-64 or a 65-66. They are different.
If you drove a Ford, you wouldn't need a good wrench!

When I saw Tom's, I got my '61 and'64 owner's manual out, and at least in these two manuals, it shows the wiper switch at leftmost, then headlights, then cigar lghter. I would assume that a '65 and '66 would be the same.

hopefully the lack of anti-corrosion from the anti freeze didn't also cause your water pump impeller and such to rot off...
Just a quick note in case you did not know. Despite the common name of freeze plugs, the plugs are not actually freeze plugs and are not designed as such. When you buy them they are called core plugs and that is what they are. They holes are in an engine casting to allow the sand from the mold to be removed and nothing more. Though they often do help when a block freezes they don't always and they were not designed to save the engine in case of a freeze (which is why they don't always help). Just an FYI, Hawkrod

61-64 have the wiper switch on the far left, 65-66 and later have the light switch far left. quite irritating if you have one or more truck of each and tend to forget. same with the warner/np tranny difference in reverse.

10-4 Hawkrod very common misunderstanding. three of the plugs are very rusty and won't move 1was just put in part way & it came out that's how I knew it froze. There was no water up in the radiator top tank to see.

Thanks Brian for clearing that up. My knowledge is a little more limited in the early slicks. Just wanted to double check

so why the hell does everybody call them freeze plugs? haha strange. That explanation makes perfect sense, it's just funny...

So they switched the switches around in 65??? funny. I guess the later position is more logical, but I don't mind... haha

Not to say I have anything against earlier flavors, I want one of each one day.

jwh f-100 the rust is on the bottom of the drivers door & one spot the kick panel area. Cab mounts are solid so is the core support. That's the way I like them. :D :D :D

the reversal of the switches came at the same time the headlight switch/fuseholder was changed and the firewall mounted fusebox added. actually there was a near complete rewire as the gen was switched to alt and the engine compartment wiring all changed around.
you cannot unplug the wiring harnesses inside the engine compartments at the firewall and switch them between 61-64 and 65-66 without changing the other or inner side ,while they will plug in the wires are not the same.

I had the same emblem on my seat I thought it would look good pressed in to the back of some buckets I was going to recover and install, I machined the same basic pattern into a piece of cast aluminum tooling plate. I tried pressing it in to a couple of pieces of scrap vinyl upholstery material using a heated dry mount press, but I was not able to get the quality I wanted. I think I will try it in a hydraulic press with a piece of steel plate to back it up might have to heat it up first. As soon as I get a chance to play with it again I will post some photos. Pretty simple to make if you have access to the right equipment, I used a Haas cnc.

Sorry Black, the birds nest is the complete wiring harness piled on top of the motor from when I changed bodies  ,Maybe I could just put it in rollers.

I put my aftermarket unit between the hand brake and the right kickpanel.
I pushed it up above the toeboard so I wouldn't
be seen. Mind the wiring, I'm not quite done yet.

seat emblems

Post by malbans »

I have the same emblems on the original vinyl seats in my 66 f-250 camper special. I think they are pretty rare.
