welcome.gif if you are going to restore the $500.00 is going to climb to a much bigger price.

The new 65's were offered for sale in Sept of 64, so that may be the big change in frame and engines he remembered.

As far as the brake thing, the self adjusters may or may not have been a mid-year change. When I did the disk brakes on the front of my 62, I also did the rears with the later hardware kit so it now has self-adjusters on the rear, as the later ones had.

Cool, thanks for the info. This is a learning process for me and it's been fun piecing together the bits of info form my Dad and Grandfather as well as other Ford enthusiasts. So keep the advice and such coming as much info as we can get on this year of truck the better...

some more questions:
Last time we re-built the 292 (1987)we found out that mid 64, Ford did a change to the engine which altered the firing order.... anyone know about this?

Also something about the solid front axel? I thinked that changed in 65

Another oddity is the double stack of leafsprings in the back... Is this part of a Camper special package?

and o course the funky crossover exhaust pipe always gets a "that's wierd" from non ford people..

have not heard anything mentioned on this, 64 was the last year for 292 in the USA but they were made in south America for many years after that.

the twin i beam front axle was new for 65

the extra set of helper springs was on the c.s. and higher gvwr f250s

thanks Iceman... So I remember the camper that was on it as a kid and the extra set of leafsprings was part of the CS package which kinda proves that package

Does anyone have any idea how many 1/2 ton SWB Camper special/Custom Cabs were made? Was this a special order item? Any history buffs please chime in....

Is there anything else I should know about this year truck that I shouldn't change or make sure I keep the same?

Well, it doesn't really prove anything. The auxillary leaf springs (extra set) could be had on F-100 and F-250 NON-Camper Special pickups too. The buyer just had to ask for it. As ICEMAN mentioned, "and higher gvwr" trucks.

With more time to consider it - I would have to say it would be a VERY special order truck. Up until now, I would have said there were NO Camper Special SWB trucks produced. In fact, it was my understanding that a F-100 (or the F-250) Camper Special package was only first available starting in '65 thru '72. Is there any emblems indicating 'Camper Special', such as in the red insert of the front fender badge?
Never-the-less, I am old enough to know enough to "never say never" about such things.......

How about posting a pic or three of it before you started your restoration? There is much accessible Slick knowledge available here that could be of some help to ya if we could see it.
How about posting the first portion of the VIN#?
Does it have an oil & amp guage?
