The Slickstock fire is strong in this one....

I am getting some good quality time in the shop...it makes a big difference.

That cab was a huge chunk of elephant. Glad it is done!

You know.. you SELDOM see this old pic of you in the shop with the truck.. in the beginning stages of the build.

Well I got some more done and it is looking good.

I got the engine back in and just have the floor jack holding up the back.


My Z-Arm was damaged from the plastic ball wearing away. So I got some 1"OD /5"ID spherical bearings. they fit right in. I will use a little locktite on final assembly. I have the bolt on the inside and will safty wire it on the outside (tail to nut.)


I started to get the column positioned a little. I will have to mount the seat again to get the right spot. I am going to take the mounting bracket off the old column and put it on the new one. I am going to cut out a little more of the firewall and bolt in the bracket for a 73 2x4 with manual steering. This should give me .5" clearance to the steering shaft and to the Z-arm.


I also started to think about the headers. I have some for 73-79 2x4 that will almost work for the DS. Just need to mod the first primary to clear the steering shaft.


The PS will get some modified headers that fir the 4x4 from L&L. I am not going to do them like they show. I will make the primaries a little more equal length. If I don't the shortest one will be 4" and the longest will be 26".


The nice thing will be that the starter will not be surrounded by headers so I shouldn't have any heat soaking problems.

Got the engine Clutch bracket done tonight.

Column...Done.
Steering shaft...Done.
DS headers...Done...sort of. Just have to do a .25" notch to clear the steering shaft.
PS headers...started and looking quite doable.

All in all, a great day.

Thanks, I love the shop...it makes all the difference. This is my first time for major body work and headers, so I would say that anyone can do it. Just take your time and think it through.

He is a walking ball of motivation right now...

Just get a few cheep sets at a swap meet and go to town on them Phil!...not as bad as you think!

Nice rebuild

Well after a long stall I got some work done.

It doesn't look like much, but I got the inner fenders cut and the steering moved over so the column is straight. The firewall bracket is from a 79 with manual steering. I was able to make the lower outside hole line up with hole for the firewall stiffener that runs behind the clutch rod.

I also hung the PS fender to check out the stance....and I am loving it! It should drop anothe 2" with the rest of the weight on it. (engine, trans, etc...)
