My Mini actually has been electrically trouble free. No Lucas parts failures so far, but then, it's only got about 38,000 miles on it. Still, having owned a British car (and several Italian cars) I wouldn't select either as a daily driver.

The way I look at it, my 97 Toyota Corolla is the best daily transportation ever. It does not bother me to jump out of my RWD trucks and cars and into a FWD. My Corolla is used as a truck...the back seat and trunk together can haul a lot of stuff. It is not pretty=no worries about paint chips and scratches. It is a foreign car, however it is a Toyota so it rarely needs repairing, and if it does the parts are very cheap for this age of car. The car is vey simple...no options=nothing to break. The tires are cheap for this car. Even being a 3 speed automatic w/no overdrive it still gets 30mpg. Insurance is cheap and I have a total investment of $800 in the whole car after purchasing it for $300.
The cool thing is, this car has no potential. I will never have any desire to do anything to it. With my other vehicles, I want to modify them in some way.
When it hits a half million miles, I might wash it!

My wife drives a 96 Geo Prizm (same exact car except for the badging) and as purely transportation it can't be beat.

Yeah I did post that as a joke However I always liked that body style was kinda like a fastback mustang on steroids. I went to high school with a friend that had a Torino with the notchback roof. Aah yes the good ole days wish I knew now what I thought I knew then.

the wife has a dd '93 e36 325i 5 spd that i got for a grand, needed a wheel bearing and had 301k on it. She has had it about 6 months or so and it now has over 330k, i did have to put a fuel pump in it but i got one from the upullit for 20 bucks... it is a pretty good lookin car i did do a little painting on it, and it still needs some more, but she loves it and it is pretty nice, the seats are very nice no rips etc. body parts are especialy cheap for these in the after market all the front sheetmetal is less than 400.i have an 86 dd e30 with a broken odometer(they all do that) at 199k, and that was from what i was told almost 10 yeard ago and a college kid had it before me. and my first bmw still runs and goes it is just kinda ugly and needs a clutch is an 84 e30 318 with i think 340k on the clock with a broken odometer.... i put an idle air control on it and a computer (same problem chasin it down)in the 4 years or so i drove it. and yea if you dont change the t belt it will eat the valves..... along will half the other cars on the road..... and there is no way in he!l it would take a good shop 3 months to do a head job. thats not a cars fault thats the shop. my $.02
