the later truck body is not wider, just the frame.

I'm having an argument with myself over whether I like it or not.

i don't like those beds-even on the trucks they were made for. they look funny with the tails in the corners. i like the stalk mounted tail lights of the older style beds better.

That looks pretty good for a bed swap. I think the tire size difference might be making the rear fenders look too big. Looks like there's some sort of ground effects on that bed. Makes it hang a little low near the cab - I could do without those. Bottom line though, for me, is I like the original flareside beds a lot better.

Frankly, I'm not a fan of any flairside bed (stepside). Allways hated, that no matter what, there is going to be dirt on the steps. More corners to wash out and it doesn't stay clean. If I had to choose between the style that came on our trucks or the one on this truck, it would be the early but just because it was original, not that it looks any better. Kinda like the difference between a cats hairball and dog barf. Workwise , it's nice to have a step so you can get stuff out of the bed easier.

I think it was Garbz who had a 80-86 flareside bed on a 66(?). There was a pic of it on the old MSN site he posted when I was looking for a flareside bed for my 66. The 80-86 bed is like the 53-79 but with fenders like the one in the pic and flat top rails. Probably the best looking flareside Ford ever made. One other cool thing about them, the fenders are fiberglass so they don't rust.

But for the oddball tires, it looks better than I would have imagined. Wrong beds look more out of place than that does. Wouldn't do it to mine, but I would sure compliment that guy if I ran into him.

Ehh, the bed really doesn't match that well...too square. Tire combo is funky and a pacer IFS.... nah.

I can definitely think of worse things he could have done than the bed....
although it is not my choice in bubblegum cigars...

but definitely better than a wrong bed.

those tires.... wha-ha-ha?

just a tad out of scale.... ye thinks?

A flatbed isnt bad...just intended to do a different job...I like the old flatbed on my 53 ton because its original to the truck. That being said, I would much rather have a 9' flareside bed on it just because thats what I want. Guess it comes down to personal preference.

It's kind of a like a fat chick in a string bikini...just because it fits, don't mean it fits right.

I installed a 80-86 Flairside box on my previous 66. My stock bed was rusted too bad to save and I found this bed at the local junkyard. After lots of measurements, decided it might work. The bodylines matched too well to discount using it. I really liked the way it looked. I realize this is probably love or hate thing depending on personal tastes. Maybe because I came here thru the 53-56 Fat Fender camp, I don't like their stepsides on a Slick.
