I've been back and forth between fordification, FTE, 460Ford, and the like, always hesitating to come here for more than research. You see you guys have some excellent Slicks, and I reckon I didn't think ya'll would much care for my FrankenLincoln. But after a few posts on those other boards, I became convinced that maybe y'all wouldn't come after me with pitchforks and torches, once ya got a look at 'er. So here ya go, my lil write-up on the amalgamation I call my own.

Well lets start with the first day.

We found her sittin in the weeds in front of an old biker's place not 2 blocks from our shop. Me and my buddy went down to look at it, and found the guy only wanted 300 bucks for it. It had a clean title, but no motor or trans, and the rear was seized up. We dragged her home, with the intent to drop a small block Chevy we had sittin around, into her, with a TH350, and go from there. That's when things got fun.

How did you do that? I have a bunch more pics from the build I'd like to post. Also, Ive noticed in other threads, that the pictures are shown right in the post. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help

Doesn't look bad.
I started with this some years ago after being out of Slicks for years.

My Uni looked like this when I first got it except that the bottom 3" of the primered portion was rusted away.

Welcome to Slick 60s.

Well, until I get the posting pics thing straightened out, I may as well keep the story going. And to do so let me start with our club's unoffical creedo "No money? Lets build it anyway."

After we had the truck for two weeks, we had already pulled the clip, and gone over what we had. It needed floor patches, front cab mounts, Wiring, and on and on and on. At this time, we started thinking about bailing on the project. Thats when my buddy found an Epay listing for a 77 Lincoln MkV with the 460, for $800. We jumped on it, seeing that the motor, transmission, rear, and sheet metal would move us along pretty far with the project. We drove an hour to the town where the car was, and upon meeting the owner, he handed us a bag with receipts. Receipts for all the performance goodies he had already dropped on the car. $4000 worth of upgrades. Aluminum performer RPM intake, Brand new Holley carb, MSD 6al ignition, brand new TCI Streetfighter C6, and on and on again. So we pulled together a few of our beefier friends, and tore into the Lincoln like a pack of wolves.

And out came its heart!

Nice score on the engine!
I used to have a 77 and a 79 Cougar but in Copper like the one in the backround of the last pic - nice rides.
Not wasting anytime - keep us posted.

This is the part of our build, that alot of the saner folks in the midst, would probably call me a heretic, and proceed with the stake-burnning. One afternoon, over a case of PBR, me and my friend sat on the rusty front frame of my truck, and stared at the now exposed front frame of the Lincoln. It had been a long week, pulling the motor, prepping the trucks frame, researching the ins-and-outs of the conversion.. When I made an off-hand comment that would start us down the dark path. I said, "Wouldn't it be easier if we could just saw-zall the front frame off the Lincoln, and weld it to the truck?"

Well, an hour of measurin and guestimating, and thats just what we decided to do!

Image

At this point, we were running out of storage space, and the landlord was pushin us to get rid of the hunk of steel that was a MkV. So out came the Sawzall, and I began cutting the hulk into sections. Later, I went back and carved ever flat usable piece of sheet, to be used as patches for the truck.
Image

We also realised that the wheel-track of the the Lincoln was 2 inches wider than that of the F100. Not to mention the lug spacing being different, so we decided to take the 9 inch rear out of the Linc. Only then realising how much easier it would have been, to remove said differential, when the car was still more or less intact.

Can you guess how we solved that problem?

Looks like a great project.. The 460 engine perches out of a 70's ford truck will will be just the ticket for your install...

Check out the MAC chapter.... There is a bunch of members in your area.http://fordtruk.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=20

As far as your photos, on your flickr page there should be somewhere that you can copy the Image code...

It will look like this but without the $

Next up, was some basic cab repair. None of us had access to a blaster, nor could we afford to replace any of the glass if it got broken trying to remove it. So instead, we wire-wheeled the hell out of the cab floor, and went to work.

Image
Unfortunately, it was bad enough, that I went from the wire-wheel, straight to the cut wheel

And here's a few of the new cab mounts from LMC

Between the fact his truck is a 64 straight axle with a 66 front clip and he is using the front frame clip from the Lincoln I don't think the 70's truck 460 mounts will work LOL.

LOL good eye btw. I actually like the 66's grill a little better, so it worked out great for me. But I do catch hell sometimes, when I call it a 64, and folks argue. As for the motor mounts, wasnt any need for foolin. Basically we just remounted the 460 into its original spots, modified the original Tranny crossmember, and it fit like a glove.

Now, with the cab on square, and everything ready for the front frame swap, we dug in.
--Edit-- Unfortunately, the gallery where I stored most of these pics, is currently down, so all I have is this one. Its after the hours of measuring, leveling, remeasuring, squaring, and remeasuring. And after the hours and hours of welding, boxing, grinding, welding.

Image

Next up was to grind off the coil perches and shock brackets from the Lincoln's rear, and weld on new leaf perches/shock mounts to put it under the truck. a can of POR-15, and new mounting hardware, brought us to this point, in March of 2008

Unfortunately, here's where my pics run out of steam. For now. I need to go through 3 memory cards taken over the last year and a half. and piece together the rest of the build, and show the truck in her 80% finished state. Unfortunately, all I have is this shot, taken last June, at our groups annual BBQ/car show, and a few from this years show

When I get the rest of the pics together, I'll make sure to put em up

I honestly mean no offense - just the opposite in fact.
Most of us scrap better cabs than that, you have done a phenomenal job repairing that - I am impressed to say the least!
Cool looking truck in the matt black too.
WOW!

Those wheels would be real cool with these center caps on them.

Yeah I like the wheels too, look like an early "no hole" Halibrand, Would look good with the spinners.

AdmiralGregor, you snookered us, we thought we were going to see a project just getting started, not a runing driving mostly done truck that any of us would be proud to own.

Exactly what I had in mind. They were available as a knock off wheel.
