To sell an intake to a 14 y/o kid for $50 or not to do so?

I'm thinking I ought to sell the kid the intake.

Kid posted on Craigslist wanted section In Tucson (home) looking for a 4 barrel intake for a 390.... I tell him I got my old Weiand, and inform him that it IS in fact a lousy design for power, or anything really.

He offers $25, I clearly cant take that, haggle him up to $50, then go check eBay and find one with 4 guys biting on it for over $100.... I paid $100 for this thing 5 years ago, in the same condition it is now...

I tell him that I did my homework and found that I would be shooting myself in the foot to sell it for $50. That I would take $100 for it or it goes on eBay.

He tells me he's a 14 y/o kid trying to build a truck to keep himself out of trouble, and that he's really sorry for taking my time, etc.

Suddenly I think I might like this guy after all. I might have to do him a favor, as you guys have done for me a few times now...

I got Aggie the week I turned 14, and blew my life savings of birthday and christmas money that I chose not to spend on crappy toys on getting her going.

I think I want this kid to be my friend. Or vice versa, perhaps. It makes me inexplicably excited to see the new generations show interest in old american iron....

you might be finding a lifetime friend.....
how bad do you need the extra 50$ ?
sell it to him , with the condition if he gets other plans he sells it back to you.

Give the intake to the kid....Maybe he needs a mentor? $50 might be alot for a 14 year old but its small beans for a working stiff when you consider how much good you can do here. Just my $.02.

Yep. I know you ain't working either Aggie but sell it to him for $50 or give it to him and then go over and help him install it. Then you have guaranteed a friend AND set the kid on the right rails! :thumright: Plus that kind of generosity will pay you back in spades.

You offered $50. Can't go back on a deal.

If its a crap design intake/part I usually give that stuff away for shipping

Two factors to be considered here

1. If you agreed to sell the manifold for $50 and then noticed the higher bids
then you have to consider is your word not worth $50? Only you can
make this decision, all men are tested by decisions like this.

2. The kid sounds like he is at a point where he needs help and guidance.
Don't let him think that the money is the only factor to be considered in
restoring cars and trucks.

While typing this response I thought of a third option. Show him where you could take the higher price, but offer him the manifold at the agreed price if he will help you work on your truck for the other 50. I have found that teaching others allows you to have a better understanding of the subject.

From reading your post I believe you already know the right path to choose.

I only voted for the monkey business because I just knew it wouldn't happen.

I have done it a hundred times, bought something I couldn't use or ended up not using and then sold it to someone for half of what I paid for it just because I felt sorry for the guy. You can't take it with you when you go, so spread a little joy while in this life, especially for a kid.

Give it to the kid for the $50. Like in your other post - help him install it. You'll lose a couple bucks (maybe - Ebay is no guarantee), and will have done a good thing.

id rather the kid work on his truck than swipping from me or getting into drugs. be a big brother bite the bullet and do what you would want if you were a 14 yr old

Is this REALLY a 14-year-old or a con-artist who is 34? If he's who he says he is, cut him a break.

Got to agree with Phil. Just about all a man has is his word. If you made the deal for $50 stick with it. Not only will you help the kid out, he may return the favor one day

My vote it to give it to the kid for 50.00.

He might even back out, or have found another. At least you will know you keep your deal and tried to do the right thing. Plus ebay can sometimes be a hassle, this is easier.

you have had it for 5 years and have not done anything with it, you probably wont do anything with it, so sell it and let someone actually use it.
