Need advice

Looking at a 78 for a donor truck but the lady says it runs but no KEYS is there a way to start one from under the hood without pulling the dash down and HOT wiring it, it's got a 351M and I hate to loose out on the deal if it does run...............

You can jump it across the starter solenoid. You have to run a positve 12v to the ignition side of the coil and then jump across to the starter side solenoid to activate the starter, then pull the jump off when it starts.
Be sure it is out of gear if a manual.

I worked with a girl in her early 20's, a real girly-girl, who used to start her Topaz with a pair of pliers across the contacts on the starter relay.
These guys seem like they are making this too complicated.

What keeps power to Ign when pliers are removed? The Girly Girl must have distracted you a bit.

Have another mug of java and rethink the jumper wire scenario. He could still bridge the heavy lugs, is he doesn't care about the copper threads or buying a new solenoid.
Also Taurus is a 3 wire solenoid & a jumper is not req'd to power up Ign.

That truck has electronic ignition so I don't think hot wiring the coil alone will start it as it has two power wires for the ignition, one for the coil and one for the control box. It's been a long while since I jumpered a factory installed electronic ignition but you also need to get power to the the control box too. If you take off the red and blue wire and the brown wire that push on the side posts of the solenoid and jump power to both of them and then put power to the S terminal on the solenoid it should fire. THANKS guys I knew there was a way to do it, but like Hawk said I was worried about the ignition box, will give it a try....may be a good deal if it runs
