Does anyone happen to know where I can get the gasket that goes between the block and the oil filter adapter plate for a 292 Y-block?
I'd make one, but I'm not sure a cork gasket would hold up.

Yes, good call 'cept I don't need the whole kit, just the gasket.
Looks like they don't offer it separate.

Scott,
you try NAPA yet?

Yeah, the morons at the two leading auto parts stores in town, including NAPA, didn't even know what a y-block is.
It's easy on and off. I may just try to make one out of cork and see if it holds.

the gasket does come in the complete kit for 223 and 292, may also come with the pan or lower end kit.
btw it is the same gasket for 223 and 292.
not that you want to spend more $ but i like to have extra gaskets on hand.

Good point. It could be just the same gasket as what the original canister sealed against.

make sure when you put it back together the small holes in the plate (drainback holes) are at the top . i have taken several apart where the holes were on the side or bottom, this is incorrect and will let the oil drain out of the filter.

I got one from my local parts store. It's a car quest . You could try Carpenter or Rick at Carolina /classics. Mine is rubber, and most likely reusable. I would not uses cork, but either rubber or thick gasket material. This is not rocket science, just plain old good sence will see you thru it. Personally, thick cardboard and sylicone should do the trick, and if it doesn't, it's easy to change.

Turns out, if you buy an original style filter from NAPA, the rubber base gasket fits perfect. $8
Who knew?
Anyone need a free canister style filter without the base gasket?
