now i know you are thinking that there is no such animal, at least from the factory, and i agree. that is why i am taking this poll.
i have someone working on a delete plate for our trucks, and they will be produced-if there is enough interest.
you can also give input on either blank plates or with the gear and lightning bolt and about the corner radii (are they too round, or not round enough?)
what about the border?
please give any constructive advice you can think of.
below is a short slide show of the cad drawings of the delete plate.
thanks.

Both my trucks never had a radio, no holes or speaker holes up on the dash. I'll never cut it, no way.

then this is definitely not for you. lol.
there are guys out there like me that have huge holes cut in the dash from a p.o.'s kraco or whatever aftermarket stereo and i'm just trying to come up with something for those of us with that problem and i'm hoping for some input on what would look good.

i like the design as is, however do think it would look just a bit better shaped like the radio with a full radius on the end.
the size shown will cover the better cut square holes but as to some of the garage doors i have seen it might need to be taller (3" ?) to cover those.
a survey of the average size of these might help.
i would be interested in one to put on the dash of a truck with no factory radio like my uni as i do not wish to cut a speaker hole in the top of the dash.
so long as it was not plastic. 3/16" or 1/4" aluminum would be nice, depending on how thick the gear/lightning bolt is above the surface.
this of course increases the cost a lot but would be a much nicer looking item i think.

thanks for the input brian. i am going to forward all this stuff to him and see what he thinks.
charlie, i wasn't trying to be an a$$. i would never cut an uncut dash either. this is just an option for those of us that can't weld.

I know about those holes, my old 66' had hole big enough to put a window airconditioner in it.

drilling 2 holes in the correct spot for a factory radio would not bother me much. not going to be a high $ show truck, i just think it would look good on the dash.

I know you were'nt, I think it's a good idea you have. I hardly ever see one without a gaping hole in it.

I'm going to look at my trucks & see what or if I need them. I like the idea of doing it.

I like the idea of making an oversized plate. My truck's dash has been hacked on. I also like the lightning bolt & gear one. Count me in for one when you start making them.

ezernut,
I like the idea.... I like the lightning and gear design.
When considering a plate to cover the 'garage door opening' holes, if possible, you might want to consider making the plate out of fairly thin aluminum or like material that could be shaped (maybe by the buyer - maybe not) to conform to the curve of the bottom of the dash. I've seen some holes that go down into the curve of the dash, so a curved plate could/should take that into consideration. In fact, if the cover extended from the midline of the dash down and to the end of the dash curvature, then any and all garage door holes would be covered.
Just a thought,,,,,,,,, Good Luck!

what i think would be nice is a radio patch panel have a factory radio cut out with some spare metal for dashes that have been modified so someone could put back stock.

If you are going to do this, you need to go for big mesurements. I'm thinking both V* and Gear and Lightning bolt shaped like the hood emblem. Take old Emblem and grind flat , paint and install in dash?

I've been talking with a local fabrication shop about rolling me a nice piece of sheet aluminum for my "garage door opening". Let me know what you guys come up with and price.

I like the gear & bolt one too. I really don't need one though - putting the stock radio back in. Might also be a cool decorative item on a console though too. Heck it would look pretty good just mounted on my tool box.
See what you started........................
Come to think of it - I may just want one for my console.

The massive hole one of the previous owners of my truck cut in the dash... looks big enough to put a garage door in.
