Slick on the side of the road

Oinklette has been telling me about a slick shes seen on the side of the freeway for the past 3 days.

She thinks its a uni, but shes not sure.

I called the highway patrol, asked them how I could get ahold of it, when the next impound auction was, etc, and asked if there were any legal way for me to pick it up after it had been proved abandoned, rather than going through the tow truck company. (the guy hollered 'Yeah if you want to be charged with theft!!" uh. isnt that why I called you? to find out whats legal? )

So, its still there, I'm going to keep an ear to the towing company and try and hit up their next auction and see if I can snag it at a reasonable price.

Oinklette is going to take some pictures on her way home from school today, and I'll see about posting them in here.

leave a note on the window asking the owner to contact you.he might sell directly if you pay the impound fee, especially if he or she does not want the truck anymore.dont know if your dmv will give out the info from the license plate or not, costs me $5 to do it here.

What kind of person would abandon a slick? That`s like leaving your kid on the side of the road ....

The difference is that I can think of one or two kids that probably should be left on the side of the road

I picked one up that was in the same situation. I got the license plate number and got the name of the registered owner. Called him and for $50.00 I was able to winch it on a trailer and off I went. Around my neck of the woods if it sits for more than a couple of days it becomes a target for morons driving around with guns at night............Ross

Welllll Shoot :(

I went down last night to have a look at it. (hadnt seen it before now) and its a 65 F250, V8, everything in it looks stock right down to what appears to be the original radio. I'm chomping at the bit for this truck. its just about exactly what i was looking for, unless you count a 4x4.

The hood was rusted through, the engine didnt have an air cleaner, and the tailgate was a little beat up, but other than that its actually in pretty darn decent shape.

So, I left a note on the dash with my phone number etc on it, and looked in the glove box and inside for anything with the owners name on it. Found 2 insurance cards, one for the truck, another to a different company and different vehicle. Called both this morning, couldnt get the right number for the guy that owns it, but I did get ahold of the other company.

Turns out they've had a break in, never heard of this guy, and are going to tell the cops about the truck in reference to the slick :( I feel bad for them about the break in, and hope they catch the guy, but this probably means that the truck will be impounded as part of a criminal investigation etc. Heck the cops might even want to talk to me :(

Kinda sad, since who knows when the truck will get out of impound now :(

Oinklette said however that it was still there at noon today (about a half an hour after i called the company) and still had not been towed or marked even by the highway patrol. Who knows what will happen to it.

Frustrating :(

probably a dishonest tower will drag it off in the middle of the night, strip the vin off the door and take it to a scrapyard that does not care.

Wondering if the truck was reported stolen? If those folks had a break in, surely it was reported as stolen. If this is so, why haven't the police already checked it out? Doh! How dumn can I be. Theres no money to be had here, and certainly no glory in an old truck. Not like what we can bleed out of someone who's had 3 beers.

this thing is driving me nuts.

i've called insurance companies, i've called police, i've called the towing company twice, i've been calling everyone in the entire city that might know how to get ahold of the owner, i paid $20 to a people search website that is just jerking me around (unlisted phone number for the owner) and i'm not very happy :(

The truck itself hasnt been stolen (that we know of anyway) it just looks like it was used to break into a company in the past week.

the only pics I have are some i took in the dark, and theyre not very good. i'll post em up anyway just for the heck of it.

oh yeah, and according to the towing company, they STILL havent had a call to tow it or even a complaint. and this is the FIFTH day its been sitting there. I'm just waiting for some jerk to bash all the windows out of it. :(

wish i could give ya better pictures, but it was night and there were cars flying by about 3 feet away doing 70+

truck looks solid enough not to be abandoned on the side of the road. did you see anything in the truck that might be of value to the owner? check the stickers to see if the registration and inspection were renewed within the last month or so.

If that truck was used in a robbery, chances are the owner had to walk home after he ran out of gas...the cops were waiting for him when he finally got home & is now currently rotting in jail.
You should call the jail & ask them if they have any inmates who own trucks. :rotflmao:

looks like a '65. Best think I can think of is you try and slip a note or a business card thru the window , to tell the towing Co. you are interested in it, but they are of course gonna try and get some money for it. Or, maybe the owner will sober up and come looking for it, see you card and ask you if you want to buy it.

already put a note on the dash.

as of today its still down there. I even mailed off a letter to the owner yesterday since i'm unable to get him on the phone.
