Slick 60's

Just thought I would put up a couple pics of motor.At this point rotating assembly is in.Idid a homebrew rear sump oil pan.The block is a 1968 sideoiler service block that I bought that had never been used.Bored 4.255 to BBC size.Ross pistons,eagle rods,leman steel crank $.Top side is Edelbrock heads,aluminum rockers and stands,smith bros pushrods,Oregon Cam Grinder custom solid cam.Early 427 dual quad manifold with 600 cfm holleys.Hedman headers,powermaster starter,edelbrock water pump,march pulleys,petronix ign inside 427 dual point dist.housing.MSD6al box.Lakewood scattershield,center force steel flywheel and clutch.






Because I am the new guy on the block just wanted to share.I'm not sure the FE is the cheapest way to go ,but I do get a lot of nice comments about it. mike

is/was that a road draft tube at the back of the intake? if so, will it work like that? beautiful engine.

That is a reproduction Cobra breather.The hole was also used for a PCV valve on passenger cars.Repops of those also available.Idon't recall any road draft tubes on a FE, but I have CRS (can't remember stuff). Sometimes I wish I would have went with a PCV SYSTEM instead of open breathers.The motor has been in and running since 2003 and has lots of fun factor if you know what I mean.

My '58 Tbird 352 has a road draft tube, but the 352 did not get into trucks until '65 I believe. The road draft tube comes out of the back of the intake manifold. Many people have converted these to PCV with kits that are available.

You are correct the FE was introduced in the 65 model year for the 100s and 250s. It may have been in larger trucks befor that as an FT motor. The road draft tube in the pickups comes off of the passanger side valve cover. It bends back and down behind the intake and is bolted to the back of the passanger side head. When you said it comes off of the intake you must be talking about a car motor. Its pretty easy to convert to PCV instead of the RDT just get a spacer off of a newer FE that has vacum ports at the rear and run hose and line to the valve cover with new grommet and pcv valve.

Oh and the motor is looking good. It should be a real screamer.
