Hey Slicksters.
Was there some articles about installing a T-5 behind an FE engine ??
I searched but came up empty handed...

T-5 behind anything but a pretty stock FE probably not a real good idea. Maybe a Tremec 500 would be OK. It would be a one off mod probably requiring a custom bellhousing.
An NV 4500 has been done behind an FE - think there is a bell out there that makes it pretty much a bolt in.
NV 4500s are found in later Dodge trucks.

T5 behind an FE would be easy, just use an adapter plate from California Pony Car. I seriously doubt a normal T5 would hold up. A TKO would be even easier, it already has the Toploader pattern. You can either get one with a short input shaft or or use a spacer plate like I did behind my 351W.

Never tried it, but it sure seems like a decent idea. Towing and such may cause some issues, but I bet a decent clutch and the thing would roll for miles and miles.

I have a tremec TKO500 behind the FE in my '64 Galaxie.
It mounted directly to my Lakewood bell housings top loader bolt pattern.
I did add a spacer to accommodate the long input shaft. I had the choice of getting a short or long input shaft. I chose the long one because it fit more applications if I wanted to reuse it.
I think it has three posible shifter placements.

I was actually thinkin bout droppin one in behind a 402 stroker. Not a good idea?

The best T-5 was only good up to 305ft-lbs of torque. If you make close to that you might break it.

Stock T-5 wouldn't be strong enough if you ever plan to put your foot in it.
A Tremec 500 would be OK though - the 500 in it's designation is the amount of torque it can handle.

The best is rated at 330ftlbs. They can be built to handle nearly the same power as a tko ...and for less than a tko. An FE that does no towing will be absolutely fine with a T5. Even if your engine makes 400ftlbs, you're rarely sending all that through the transmission at once, and therefore, you will rarely exceed the limit.

Well, the motors rated at 450+ hp. So would the tko 500 still be too light?

How much torque is produced by the 450hp motor?
I think the tko 500 will probably be the perfect match. It'd probably be pushing it for any of the unmodified T5s. And a 450hp FE probably isn't for gentle grandma-esque trips to the grocery store.

Sorry guys I lied. It's a 408 Stroker, not 402. And as for torque, I'd guess its around the 400 range...
