As I am working on my cab, I have decided to replace my scratched and pitted winshield with a new one. I did a search and didn't find this topic discussed.
Thinking about buying from NPD. They are local to me so I can pick it up and avoid the freight charge. Plus they have always treated me well. NPD offers a PLK tinted windshield for about $140. Clear is 20 some dollars more. Anyone have any comments on this brand? Is the thickness same as original? I have heard 67-79 windshields are usually thinner than original glass, wonder if this is standard practice these days. I will get a new windshield gasket at the same time, so hopefully they are compatable. Any other comments, good or bad?

try mobile 1 glass, they come to you and I got mine installed for $150... they only have the green tinted with the blue smoked strip, but I like the way it looks.

I got mine replaced locally when the neighbor kids overshot their yard with a baseball.
Comprehensive insurance covered the whole thing...they came out and replaced it with no problems. I'm pretty sure they used replacement rather than salvage----and it fits, looks and works just fine. Actually, I think it fits BETTER than the old one, as the new one doesn't leak!!!

modern window glass I believe has to meet to D.O.T standards and is a heck of alot safer than 1960's windows. Probably alot better for heating and cooling too.

Until recently, I would tell you that most all the glass out there was made by PPG or similar and just had different logos on it. Thickness should not be any different. However, our friends in China have now started making windshields which are being sold by every glass company out there and there's no way to tell what you are getting. I've heard the China glass can frequently have optical distortions and other problems (this from a windshield installer buddy) so is best avoided where possible but it's often not possible.
That said, I doubt heavily that glass for older vehicles which sells in such small quantities is likely to be made overseas.

Thanks for the input.
I have read on Fordification that 67-72 & 73-79 windshields, which supposedly interchange, have become thinner over the years. I have no idea how much or if that is even true. I was wondering if the slicks had possibly the same issue. Doesn't sound like it.
I have been getting NPD coupons for 10% or so off lately, so hopefully some time in June/July I'll get to use one and buy a new windhshield and gasket.
