You can use original performance parts like a 57 Thunderbird 312 4 barrel intake and the ECZ-G heads. There also a set of exhaust manifolds called "ramhorns" that came on heavy duty 292's in big trucks and are really free flowing.Go to
www.ford-y-block.com for more performance parts and info.

I'm running G heads, Blue Thunder intake, MSD Distributor, High ratio rockers, and a fairly stock low end with a T-5 for a tranny. Seems to be running quite well, 2500 RPMS@80 with 3.73 rear end.....

Lincolnslick,
Ford built a few 57 T Birds with a 312 engine , with a 2- 4 bbl intake the old Holly "Castle "carbs ,and the old horse hair air cleaners .My brother in law and I have had 14, 57 birds , at one time or another, over the years. I wish I had kept one or two right now! lol.I took one of these off one of the "birds" and still have it here in the shop. Wayne (needmoretime) saw it sitting up on the shelf and said "what is that for", he didn`t know that they were made for the T-Birds.
Bill.

Do a search for Ford y block, on the internet. You will find John mummerts y block site. All kinds of stuff there cams intakes headers heads pistons whatever you can afford. Otherwise, I have three sets of ramhorns, in various condition. I have one set that both need repair and resurfacing. Wil sell for 80$ to a club member. I have another set that are not perfect and have been repaired but ned surfacing 200 and a third set, that are usable if you use manifold gaskets for 300. If ou are going to build a y block engine, I suggest you start by finding a heavy duty 292. These came in f600 and bigger trucks, and are rare. these have forged steel cranks, and other goodies. Came with double roller timing chain, ramhorns and four barrel carb. Unfortunately, these also cam with small valve heads, as a general rule. The ECZ-g heads are considered the best performance heads, but had a tendency to crack. the 471 head is a little less on compression but is also considered to be a better head crack wise. Also, the 1.54 better ratio rockers are hard to find. Building a y block is not for the financially strapped individual. These engines are expensive to build.

Forgot to mention the F-bird, the ultimate y block engine. Had a paxton supercharger.
